Funny enough this bullshit only applies to this level cuz all the normal stages work perfectly fine by just timing the drift right. i dunno why they made this one level so weird but it could be something related to how drift originally worked before they added the triggers

I never understood the Sonic Unleashed drift for years but it finally clicked for me that it is literally just "turn right to go left" in a sonic game, even down to Lightning McQueen reflecting Sonic fans acting like it's stupid for a drift to have a skill ceiling 😭
