Ecological Society released Report on Biodiversity of Indrayani river on 15 Oct. Protecting rivers is essential, but protectors must arise from local communities. This was the general consensus expressed. Attached: Report published in Loksatta Marathi Daily. @ecologicalsoc
Remembering Aditya Paranjape 🌿
Aditya’s untimely passing has left a deep void in Pune’s wildlife and conservation community.
His official letters and guidance were invaluable for PRR and Jeevitnadi in the fight to protect the Ram–Mula Confluence.

Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in the Himalayan belt used to occur at intervals of decades. Since 2020, there has been a GLOF every year. This is one of the very direct impacts of climate change, and this was predicted in early 2000s.
The real question to ask therefore is, WHY has nothing been done in any of the at-risk areas to reduce the damage from this type of flooding?? On the other hand, there has been an indiscriminate INCREASE in population density and infrastructure across this high risk region! What happened in different Himalayan states of India over the last few years, and what has happened in Nepal recently must be blamed on bad planning and governance over the last two decades.
It is the same mentality and the same governance system that push for Riverfront Development Projects in Pune district, with no consideration to the increasing risks produced by the combination of climate change and channelised rivers.

Scientists On Survival spray fire extinguishers at government building
Today marks the end of a government public consultation on the controversial Rosebank oil field in the North Sea. Fourteen scientists, including experts in climate, ecology, health and energy, sprayed the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero in Whitehall Place this morning.
The ‘Scientists On Survival’ group says it has tried every form of communication with the government, including research reports, letters, petitions and meetings, to highlight the urgent need for drastic action in the face of climate and ecosystem breakdown. Their immediate concern is that, despite Labour manifesto pledges, new PM Andy Burnham is under pressure from fossil fuel lobbyists and Donald Trump to allow new production from the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields.

Textbook induced demand. Cities keep building roads and acting surprised when congestion returns. We've known this for decades.
This was completely predictable. Braess's paradox has been proven in reality the world over, and all city road planners know about it.
Even so, decades of research, ignored. One more inauguration, just one hour, one more traffic jam.
Just one hour after the inauguration, the new bridge connecting Kharadi and Keshav Nagar over the Mula-Mutha River is already witnessing heavy traffic.
The bridge was inaugurated by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) today, but traffic congestion has quickly become a concern for commuters. @PMCPune

The disaster raises serious questions over geological risk assessment, tunnel safety, emergency preparedness and worker safety. The project’s prolonged delays, major cost escalation & history of accidents and environmental violations add to these concerns. sandrp.in/2026/08/17/aug-202…
