Our practice is to cultivate good seeds in the soil of our mind, knowing that they will mature and bloom in their own time.

Be diligent & do not stray from this unfabricated natural state, which doesn’t need to be maintained or sustained. It also doesn’t need somebody to sustain it. Recognize yourself, & at the same time let the mind face itself. Give up everything, all other concerns.

One minute of hard effort delivers the same physiological benefit as 6 minutes of moderate exercise, or up to 156 minutes of light movement.
A recent study just rewrote the math on exercise intensity. 🔥
Researchers analyzed wearable (accelerometer) data from nearly 74,000 UK Biobank adults and found that 1 minute of vigorous activity delivers roughly the same mortality and disease risk reduction as 4–9 minutes of moderate activity—or up to 50–150+ minutes of light movement, depending on the outcome.
**That’s a huge departure from the long-standing 1:2 guideline (based mostly on self-report and energy cost estimates).
Key findings (for a standardized 5–35% risk reduction):
• All-cause mortality: ~4.1 min moderate or ~53 min light per 1 min vigorous
• CVD mortality: ~7.8 min moderate
• Major cardiovascular events: ~5.4 min moderate
• Type 2 diabetes: ~9.4 min moderate or ~94 min light
• Cancer-related outcomes showed more variation (sometimes even higher light-activity equivalents)
Vigorous activity remained the strongest predictor of lower risk even after accounting for total movement volume, age, sex, BMI, and other factors. 👉 Intensity appears exponential, not linear.
Practical takeaway: You don’t need hour-long sufferfests. Short, sharp efforts (intervals, hills, circuits) sprinkled into your week can be remarkably efficient for longevity.
Everyday movement still matters—especially if you’re starting out—but adding some intensity lifts the ceiling.
** 1:2 guideline is the old rule of thumb that one hard minute counts as two moderate minutes—and the new data suggests the actual health equivalence is stronger than that.
Paper: Nature Communications (Biswas et al., 2025). Observational design with strong device-based measures; results support updating guidelines and wearable algorithms.

🧠 Your brain on supplements just got a major reality check.
An immense review of over 23,000 studies tested 64 over-the-counter options for depression.
The standouts with strongest evidence? St. John’s Wort, saffron, probiotics, vitamin D, and omega-3s.
Meanwhile, oral arginine is showing it can suppress amyloid-β plaques, slash inflammation, and boost cognition in Alzheimer’s models.
Creatine isn’t just for muscles — it powers memory, learning, and even seizure control.
These aren’t miracle cures, but the science is stacking up for brain health.
Many findings are still early (preclinical), so more human trials are essential — and always check safety with your doctor, as interactions and side effects exist.
So the list being studied includes:
1. Staying physically active
2. Eating a whole food diet
3. Managing stress
4. Optimizing sleep
Doctor tip: Don’t chase every trend.
Focus on evidence-backed basics like vitamin D, omega-3s, and probiotics while we await bigger trials.
Meanwhile, focus on the basics:
1. Staying physically active
2. Eating a whole food diet
3. Managing stress
4. Optimizing sleep
Boring advice, but oh-so important!

One method to help remove splinters,
To abandon an unwholesome thought or feeling that has already arisen.
To not let an unwholesome thought or feeling arise that has not yet arisen.
To arouse a wholesome thought or feeling that has not yet arisen.
To maintain a wholesome state that has already arisen.
Right Effort (Eightfold Path)
The wholesome states optimally would be the Brahma Viharas, or a mixture thereof.

Abandon the unwholesome, cultivate the wholesome. These are such good essays. ♥️🙏
"The Brahma-vihāras are incompatible with a hating state of
mind, and in that they are akin to Brahmā, the divine but
transient ruler of the higher heavens in the traditional
Buddhist picture of the universe. "
"They are called abodes (vihāra) because they should become
the mind’s constant dwelling-places where we feel “at
home”; they should not remain merely places of rare and
short visits, soon forgotten. In other words, our minds
should become thoroughly saturated by them. They should
become our inseparable companions, and we should be
mindful of them in all our common activities."
"These four—love, compassion, sympathetic joy, and
equanimity—are also known as the boundless states
(appamaññā), because, in their perfection and their true
nature, they should not be narrowed by any limitation as to
the range of beings towards whom they are extended. They
should be non-exclusive and impartial, not bound by
selective preferences or prejudices. A mind that has attained
to that boundlessness of the Brahma-vihāras will not
harbour any national, racial, religious, or class hatred."
