As trust in vaccines & scientific research becomes political in DC & anti-vaxxers like RFK Jr. are elevated to key roles in the federal government, I joined experts, doctors, & parents in Seattle today to talk about the importance of vaccines to keep families safe & healthy.

Thank you @SantoshVardhana , From an Immunologist who believes in the current and future faculty of vaccination as a powerful technology to improve human health, I have been hesitant to get the words right to speak out and support the continued importance of our work. @PeterHotez
I’ve tried and failed to contain my fury at @joerogan and @RobertKennedyJr's recent craven clickbait podcast episode featuring tired reruns of disproven tropes about the dangers of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.

As scientists, we often forget just how cool our work is. I showed my parents what I do in lab for the first time today & my mom was amazed just looking at DNA on a agarose gel & human cells under the microscope. Take a moment to be proud of yourself & your science!

Check out our new preprint examining the roles of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines IFNg & IL-10 during SARS-CoV-2 infection of NHP. IL-10 limits early T cell expansion while promoting the formation of airway Trm cells. Amazing job by @TcellScientist!

Ulla Buchholz has developed a SARS-2 pediatric vaccine candidate that's incredibly protective in macaques.
A single intranasal delivery induces mucosal Abs and huge frequencies of Trm in the airway.

There may be a longer tail of circulation after the peak (as seen in South Africa), but a rough expectation would have an equivalent number of cases in the next 4 weeks on the other side of the peak. This would suggest 36-46% of the US infected by Omicron by mid-Feb. 7/9
Cannot wait to dive into this. This type of effort from authors to allow others to seamlessly utilize their impressive datasets is selfless and honorable. Will help lots of other investigators help make new and important hypotheses within their own spheres of research! Thank you!
📢 Together with @KC_DC_01 we made a super cool portal for anyone to navigate the data @CellCellPress: livercellatlas.org/ This means you can take any UMAP from any figure and then check the expression of any gene or protein of interest yourself 1/2 cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…
