I built a new data center in my house last weekend. Don’t know why everyone complains about them. 10/10 would recommend.

This will produce less ministers at a time when we already have a shortage of them. Monetary debasement is a ministry issue.
Compared to two years ago, the average Southern Baptist pastor’s pay package and total compensation grew slightly while still trailing inflation. research.lifeway.com/2026/09…

The thesis that human beings are special is neither wishful thinking nor a “feeling” we don’t want to lose. It’s a deep and time-tested theological conviction and foundation that western civilization is built upon. Nearly every argument for machine consciousness relies on this kind of low anthropology + motivated reasoning. It sounds quite scientific and humble, yet is neither.
You're gonna hear a lot of people arguing more and more about whether machines can be conscious or not. By next year it will be drowning out the airwaves because we'll have AI employees everywhere. I'll give you a simple rule to know which side you're on. I've spent fifty years reading all the philosophers, and a bunch of holy works. Nobody has ever understood a damn thing about consciousness. Anyone speaking with authority on it is bluffing hard. I can tell you this, though: Every single person who thinks that machines cannot be conscious, is making an argument that humans are special. Everything they say just boils down to blah blah blah, "nooo, we're special." From there it's just rationalization. It became obvious to me many years ago that there's nothing special about us. If an identical planet exists somewhere else in the universe, it's going to grow life and societies that look a lot like ours. As soon as you give up on the idea that humans are special, all the arguments against machine consciousness evaporate. Of course they're conscious. The only thing holding you back from acknowledging it is your feeling of specialness, which is hard to let go of. But that feeling is a weakness, and it's making you unprepared for the near future. As a bonus, for any of you who might take pleasure or active interest in making models experience pain or distress, well, you know how they say 1% of human adults are true clinical psychopaths but most of them are unaware of their condition? It turns out we have a diagnostic test for it now.

it’s been an interesting 24 hrs of texts and DMs amongst the Study Committee. we’re all still learning where the other members are at on these issues. but we/i have learned a lot from Adam, and i’m super glad he wrote out these thoughts for us all.
I am a member of the PCA ad interim Study Committee on AI. What follows is my own opinion. I do not speak for the committee. Several friends have asked for my thoughts on the work posted on “The Faith Received” (TFR) today. Here are my observations:

The quiet pastor faithfully preaching the Bible and counseling his church in truth and love is doing more for America and more importantly, more for Christ than thousands of Christians online who think it will profit them to gain worldly influence, even as they lose their souls.

Rarely do I preach through advent without a Children of Men reference, but it keeps feeling less and less like science fiction these days…
In 2022, a Canadian church hosted a ‘physician-assisted suicide’ in its sanctuary, ending the life of an 86-year-old congregation member. They called it a “crossing over ceremony.” 🧵

I’m REALLY looking forward to this review, and especially @bonniekristian’s latest. I’ve heard from a handful of people with advance copies that she’s doing a real service to evangelicalism - both the evangelical CHURCH and evangelical DISCOURSE. The constant, nut-picking cynicism has more than run its course. It’s tired.
My combo review of this point/counterpoint is coming in the fall print issue of @mereorthodoxy (and you'll get Kirsten Sanders' review of just the book on the left as well).

Since AI discourse is happening again, here is my rule for AI ethics in education: If it would be cheating to have a human do it for you, it’s cheating to use AI to do it for you. 1/

There's some irony in using the internet and social media to state unequivocal opposition to AI, which to me is just the next phase (albeit a powerful one) of internet-enabled technology. If you're on the internet and social media, you're using AI. 🧵

I had a long discussion with my daughter at dinner yesterday about why so many young people find socialism attractive right now. It boils down to three things: 1. Even with a decent education, young people don’t see enough jobs and career opportunities that allow them the good life previous generations had. They feel studying and working no longer pays off. 2. Real estate is unaffordable for most. Buying is an unachievable dream, and even renting is extremely expensive. It makes starting a family and having children difficult. That’s understandably depressing for them. 3. Young people see socialists as the only ones who seem to care about them and offer “solutions” that sound and feel easy and good. Nobody else cares in their view. It took me a while to explain why socialism would make these things much worse. She understood but asked a really good question: what’s the solution then? I keep thinking about that. Help me out.
