I met an American couple on the train from Girona to Barcelona yesterday.
Her: “Can you explain why Brits voted for Brexit”?
Me: “I guess it was like Americans voting for Trump”.
Him: “I voted for Trump”.

I don’t think it’s genuine Harris Tweed. But don’t tell Layla.

I’m missing her. It’s very quiet!
First visit to Girona for the Sociedad Espanola de Psicogeriatria Congress. Beautiful city and great to meet up with old friends here. My wife sends this, reporting that the dog has abandoned hopefully waiting for my return.

That’s a different and difficult situation. Such a patient would be unlikely to get to the point where the drugs were discussed with them.

I’m truly sorry to learn about her illness and suffering. Anyone with experience of a loved one with dementia will know how distressing and difficult agitation is and will understand why it is such an important target for treatment.

Thanks Rachey. Good to know someone smart gets it. We had the Referee 2 from Hell on this one.
With the amazing @kathy_y_liu. Can we combine what we know about the neuropathology and neurochemistry of agitation in Alzheimer’s disease with the relational/attachment aspects of unmet emotional need that lead to this most distressing symptom?

Whether or not the differences in cognitive function and ADL are truly meaningful is for clinicians, families and patients to decide from a realistic appraisal of the trial evidence. Our paper explains what can confidently be anticipated. We didn't get into safety...

Thanks John. I can imagine how upsetting it is for patients and families to feel that they are being cruelly denied treatment - particularly when the potential benefits are so over-sold by lobbyists.
New paper - just how should the data on new Alzheimer’s treatments be communicated to clinicians, patients and families? People affected by dementia are so vulnerable to exaggerated claims of benefits, so please, let’s be evidenced in our promises.
