“Threads — and Bluesky — have effectively quarantined some of the worst people on the internet.”
Very true.
Last year I thought Threads was an existential risk to X.
When Meta puts its full weight behind something -- by injecting the app into Instagram, it’s DEFCON 5:
You have to squeeze out every last drop of growth from all available surfaces to save the app.
However, I started to realize that the opposite was happening:
It was strengthening X.
If you look at any announcement by Zuck, you will see the most rude & toxic comments on the internet.
But when he makes those same announcements on X, people are thrilled about how he’s pushing humanity forward. X is a place where people are excited about the future, so it’s no surprise he and his top lieutenants are using it more than their own app.
Threads — and Bluesky — have effectively quarantined some of the worst people on the internet.
And so I had an epiphany: those apps are X’s anti-abuse systems.

Why hasn’t anyone used generative AI to make a fake Supreme Court opinion and “leak” it yet? Seems like an obvious thing to do.
An interesting bit of trivia—the Texas Business Court is actually located on the first floor of the Texas A&M School of Law. We even share a break room.
But shockingly, no one yet has reacted to my go-to greeting: “Howey doing?”
Important new Texas Business Court decision: After reincorporation from Delaware to Texas, the state of incorporation at the time of filing (here Texas) governs derivative standing and demand even when the claims accrued while incorporated in Delaware. 1/ txcourts.gov/media/1463428/2…

The only group more insufferable than tech people is anti-tech bluesky users, who have been coming back to X in droves the last few weeks.
And they’re just discovering that the entire world got rich over the last two years while they were busy arguing with each other about politics and AI.
And they’re very, very angry.

Last year, we reincorporated to Texas. Last night, the Texas business court dismissed the first shareholder derivative suit brought against us since our reincorporation, just five months after it was first filed.
We appreciate the court’s careful consideration and speed. Opinion linked below.

Update: After scanning almost 23,000 dissertations, I can now say... it's REALLY bad out there.
More than 1-in-5 dissertations uses AI nowadays, much of the time to do all of the writing.

Talked about exactly this in the @cyberbulls that is airing right now.
There is not enough scrutiny on the proxy advisors (ISS, Glass Lewis, ...).
And the fact that they oppose TX as a new corporate domicile is just one of the many conflicts they have.

Nice post on the lex Rhodia. The assimilation into Roman law is interesting: the duty to contribute was interpreted by the jurists as an aspect of good faith in the contract of carriage, entered into by merchants with the ship's business manager (magister navis)...
When a ship is at risk, it's sometimes necessary to throw some of its cargo overboard to save it.
But who decides whose cargo is thrown?
To avoid counterproductive bickering in times of danger, the ancient Greeks widely adopted a law from Rhodes: "Lex Rhodia de iactu," which states that financial losses for thrown cargo are equally shared among all cargo owners on the ship.
So ,since losses are shared, the owners of heavy, cheap items didn't fight to stop the crew from dumping their property, because they knew they would be compensated by the owners of lightweight luxury goods.
This Rhodian law was later adopted by the Romans and, through transmission, became the basis of modern maritime law regarding jettisoned cargo.

On Tuesday evening, at our Constitution Day event on campus, UATX announced an $11 million gift from Gail Jaquish and Steve Kenninger to build the university’s law program and endow the chair who will lead it. Judge James Ho of the Fifth Circuit delivered the address.
UATX’s general counsel Adam Biggs explains what we intend to build, and why this is the perfect time to do so:

"The Framers knew that our republic requires citizens capable of maintaining it, and that such citizens have to be formed in every generation by families and by schools willing to do the work.
That work is UATX's mission.
And from our country’s very beginning, this work was funded by the generosity of Americans.
Tonight, I’m excited to announce that this tradition is alive and well, and that Gail Jaquish and Steve Kenninger have generously committed $11 million dollars to kickstart UATX’s Law program and establish an endowed chair to lead it."
