Ownership in high-value assets has historically come with extremely high barriers to entry.
Tokenization gives us an opportunity to rethink those barriers. We've already seen fractionalized real estate platforms opening property investment to retail participants, and tokenized art shares giving broader access to works once locked in private collections.
With Socios Equity Token, we’re exploring what that could mean for sports equity.
$5B in assets brought onchain. That’s the scale of infrastructure @Securitize has built across tokenized real-world assets.
Now, we’re working with them to bring that expertise into sports.
Together with @Socios, Securitize will provide the regulated tokenization infrastructure behind the planned Socios Equity Token, as we work to bring minority equity interests in professional sports teams onchain.
The next RWA category: sports equity.
Sports equity is becoming a new onchain category.
Our work with @Socios and @Securitize is at the center of a broader evolution across the Chiliz ecosystem, alongside omnichain @FanTokens, @KayenFinance liquid staking and the buildout of deeper DeFi infrastructure.
@TokenRelations breaks down some of the biggest developments from the past month 👇
The SEC just proposed something that matters a lot for tokenized equity: allowing blockchains to serve as the official legal record of share ownership, not just a mirror of an offchain database.
Right now, most tokenized stocks run on two ledgers: the onchain token and the 'real' shareholder register kept elsewhere. If those ever disagree, lawyers default to the offchain version, even when the blockchain data is more current.
Under the new proposal, a blockchain could become the single master security file, cutting out duplicate recordkeeping and the reconciliation headaches (and legal risk) that come with running two systems in parallel.
It's not a free pass to full permissionless ownership, issuers still have to enforce who can hold and transfer shares, and transfer agents keep their compliance duties (KYC, inheritance, legal notices, etc.). But it's a real signal that regulators are starting to treat onchain infrastructure as the infrastructure, not just a layer bolted on top.
It's exactly this kind of regulatory shift that paves the way for the Socios Equity Token to operate on firm legal ground.
𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐃: Sports ownership is coming onchain.
@Socios and @Securitize are partnering to develop the Socios Equity Token digital assets, regulated tokenized equity offerings involving minority interests in professional sports teams.
The initiative will bring together Socios.com’s global sports network and Securitize’s regulated infrastructure, introducing a new category of ownership to the Chiliz ecosystem and tapping into a global sports industry heading towards a $1 trillion valuation.
