The best way to accurately predict where deforestation will occur? By identifying 'Ghost Roads'. 200 people spent 7,000 hours identifying them. Here's what you need to know about it:

This @CSIRO #Wheatcast national wheat yield forecast for 2024 is based on data to 1 Sept. Median yield expectation is 2.29 t/ha. An above average national yield is 'locked in'. The map shows the variability of expected water-limited yields. For more see: research.csiro.au/digiscape/…

Amazing 100% incidence on susceptible checks in our renovated @CDC_USask FHB nursery in Saskatoon. Proud to be a part of the teams led by @CurtisPozniak and Dr Adam Carter wheat breeders who made this happen. We got great differential for breeding programs and research projects!

Evaluating fusarium head blight risk has never been easier. The new PrairieFHB tool allows you to assess risk for FHB, fusarium damaged kernel and DON toxin levels for cereal crops across the western prairies. Check out the map at prairiefhb.ca/

Plant populations set the stage for the yield potential of a crop. Research shows each crop has an optimum plant density that producers should target and by using TKW, germination, and expected survival rates, producers can maximize their crops' potential: ow.ly/u1tK50RmlNF

Just a heads up... We confirmed a population of Group 14-resistant kochia in southern Alberta last year. It is known to occur in west-central Saskatchewan, southern Alberta and North Dakota. Growers/agronomists should pay particular attention to scouting after the PP burndown.

Well spring is coming soon, so I'm putting out the call again for producers/agronomists to send us soil samples from pea or lentil fields. We got great data last year, but we need more samples to build a robust root rot prediction model. @AlbertaPulse @SaskPulse @MbPulseGrowers

Satellite data and #AI used to detect 'dark' fishing vessels⬇️ By using 5 years’ worth of data from @copernicusEu #Sentinel1 and #Sentinel2 along with GPS information and #ArtificialIntelligence, researchers from @GlobalFishWatch were able shed new light on the number of vessels at sea. The study reveals that around 75% of the world's industrial fishing vessels have previously been ‘dark’ to public tracking systems: esa.int/Applications/Observi…
