Nice to see that my paper on ‘everyday infrastructures of urban life’ is now in print at @IJURResearch. I reiterate the need to reorient the foundational parameters of infrastructure… onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Ugandans are rebellious. But they rebel through mockery, clowning, slowdowns and other social forms. They have rebelled against the National Cleaning Day. The State is in a Catch-22: 1. Do you rollback the policy and admit failure? 2. Do you suspend and revise the policy?

Good to meet President @WilliamsRuto at #UNGA. I strongly support his work as the AU Champion for Local Manufacturing of Medical Products. Africa must produce more of the medicines and health technologies we need. I also raised the continuing persecution of Dr @kizzabesigye1. He was abducted in Nairobi in November 2024, forcibly taken to Uganda and has remained in detention since. President @KagutaMuseveni cannot wash his hands of an abduction that ended with his political opponent before a Ugandan military court and, nearly two years later, still in prison. African leaders must speak out against abduction and political persecution, and for respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Activist Collins Otieno and others protesting in the Nairobi CBD have called on the President’s office to respond to their petition over the continued detention of Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye. The group also urged Kenyan authorities to take action and called for greater freedom for East African citizens.

The Free Dr. Kizza Besigye peaceful Protests in Kenya have turned violent. Many comrades have been abducted, and others have been brutally arrested. Harambee House is now surrounded by armed men. We hope the security goons abducting our comrades are not from Uganda.!!

Tomorrow, hundreds of Kenyan activists will storm the streets to demand the release of Ugandan veteran activist and four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye. Dr Kizza Besigye, appearing ex parte in an ongoing court hearing while in his hospital bed, is being accused of treason. A charge that the primary evidence has failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Dr Warren Kizza Besigye was abducted in a joint operation between Kenyan and Ugandan forces, driven at breakneck speed to Kampala, from where he was paraded before a military tribunal. Pending a Supreme Court decision at the time, the tribunal was deprived of its civilian jurisdiction. At the moment, the anticipation was that Dr Besigye and his aide Obed Lutale were to be released because of the expiry of their remand warrant. However, the state proceeded to parade them before a civilian court that denied them bail even after long days of waiting without charges. On noticing misconduct by the judicial officers in the matter, Dr Besigye and his co-accused asked the sitting judge to recuse himself from the matter, to which request he objected, leading to the most unfair trial in the history of Uganda's criminal jurisprudence. Why does most of Uganda continue punishing activists with fabricated charges?

I’d recommend this piece by Foucault. He breaks away from the usual image of the intellectual who is the voice of all, and proposes the ‘specific intellectual’, who intervenes from within a specific institution or profession. Most interesting to me, the idea that one aspect of++

Thank you @kiizaeron and @AAgather for your courageous leadership. I fully endorse the petition. Thank you for standing with @kizzabesigye1 @EriasLukwago Obed Lutale and others in prison with them.
**HE IS NOT ALONE* *STAND WITH BESIGYE* For 22 months, Dr Kizza Besigye has been behind the walls of Luzira Prison. For nearly three decades, he has paid a heavy price for standing for freedom, justice and democracy in Uganda - arrested countless times, detained, brutalised and prosecuted, without a single criminal conviction. Now his health is failing. He collapsed in court. Yet bail has repeatedly been denied. His trial continues while he is unwell and unable to participate fully in his defence. His legal team has been broken up: team leader @MarthaKarua barred from Uganda, another forced into exile, and his Deputy lead lawyer, former Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, @EriasLukwago_ himself now in prison instead of hospital of choice per medical team opinion. They (Government) have taken Besigye’s freedom. We (the people) will not stand by as prison takes his health and dignity too. And we stand with those imprisoned alongside him, and those paying a price for defending him. OUR GOAL: UGX 100 MILLION We are raising UGX 100,000,000 for Dr Besigye’s welfare and care in detention, and to ease the enormous burden that prolonged imprisonment places on those caring for him. This is not a legal fund. It is a human solidarity fund. It is ordinary people saying to a man who has given so much: You are not alone. We see you. We stand with you. The arithmetic is simple: 100 people × UGX 1,000,000 1,000 people × UGX 100,000 10,000 people × UGX 10,000 Every contribution counts. No amount is too small. Let thousands of us turn our concern into solidarity—and our solidarity into action. CONTRIBUTE: +256 776 462727 — Atuhaire Agather HE IS NOT ALONE. SHOW UP. NOT TOMORROW. NOW. #StandWithBesigye #FreeBesigye
