On election night in May 2022 Albanese committed to the Uluru Statement from the Heart "in full". The Statement asks for three things: Voice, Treaty and Truth. Labor's policy said it "will establish a Makarrata Commission as a priority."
The first step was the Voice.
The referendum on 14 October 2023 cost taxpayers $411 million. Australians voted No, 60% to 40%, and every state said No.
The October 2022 Budget had already given the Makarrata Commission $5.8 million. In May 2024 part of that money was moved to other programs.
On 4 August 2024, on Insiders, he was asked about the Makarrata Commission plan. His answer: "Well, that's not what we have proposed."
AAP FactCheck rated that answer False. It was Labor policy, in writing, and it was funded in his own Budget.
You can support treaty or oppose it.
Either way, a Prime Minister who committed to it "in full" on election night shouldn't be telling Australians on national television that he never proposed it.
