Last week Afsar Muhammad presented his work on the core structure of lightweight gypsum materials during the Workshop on Advanced X-ray characterization technologies in Earth Sciences hosted by @ZAG_Slovenia in collaboration with @unict_it, @cnr_igag and @elettrasincro
Last week Prof. Dr. Tom Bultreys and Sharon Ellman were invited to teach about micro-CT imaging and image analysis at the winter school on Digital Environmental Geosciences @Univ_Orleans on 16 and 17 January.
Two new PhD students joined our group last week!
Hanne will study how to improve the durability of (weathered) building stones and Afsar will work on the multi-scale characterization of the core structure of lightweight gypsum materials.
Good luck and welcome to the team!
Last week we had one of the last beam times at the TOMCAT beamline before the major upgrade of the Swiss Light Source @psich_en will start this fall.
Thanks to @c_schlepuetz for the great support as usual, and to our team from @ugent.
Lots of data to analyze now!
It was a real pleasure to host CrysPom VIII last week!
Thank you everyone for sharing this lovely experience with us 🙌. Our thanks also go to our sponsors @FWOVlaanderen @tescan_micro @EXCITE_network and partners @InterPoreTweets @kikirpabe @UAntwerpen.
See you next time!
Are you interested in crystal nucleation, growth and transport in #PorousMedia?
Join on the biannual international workshop: cryspom8.ugent.be.
Only 6 days before the end of abstract submission! 📅13/02/23

Laurenz Schröer and Ellie Buena recently presented their work on respectively the impact of biofouling on water transport and the fluid-rock-microbial interactions in natural building stones using µCT at ECBSM in Rome (ecbsm.u-cergy.fr/). @EXCITE_network @VICI_BugControl
Last week we had our PProGRess Picture Poll Party, where we were challenged to present our best academic image or video. Congratulations to the winners!!
Géraldine and Kanchana are currently @CambridgeEarth doing SEM-EBSD analysis through @EXCITE_network to study microscopic weathering features in olivine. These results will help to understand the feasibility of coastal enhanced silicate weathering, a negative emission technology.
Congratulations to PProGRess researcher Dulce Valdez for winning an outstanding poster award at the 76th RILEM Annual Week and International Conference on Regeneration and Conservation of Structures in Kyoto! #ICRCS22 #porousmedia #mortars
Congratulations to UGCT & PProGRess researcher Sharon Ellman for winning a best poster award at the 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Flow and Transport in Permeable Media! #porousmedia #tomography
Several PProGRess members are at #ICTMS2022 conference in Grenoble to present some of our latests research in #tomography.
On June 13th, a team with Benjamin and Jeroen did experiments @psich_en SLS/TOMCAT beamline by using X-ray dark-field imaging to detect frost sensitive zones of natural building stones that are invisible to conventional X-ray techniques.
For the next two days PProGRess is at the (Re)mining Extractive Waste Symposium to present 3D structural and chemical characterisation of ores #remining2022
A team with Ben (@BenCallow26), Dulce, Maxim and Mostafa visited the new Dual Imaging and Diffraction (DIAD - K11) beamline @DiamondLightSou to conduct pore scale salt crystallization experiments, to examine strain and phase change inside geomaterials. @ugent_fwe @GeologyUGent
Last week Mostafa and Gulce visited Dr. Kamaljit Singh’s (@KamalSinghBaath) Lab @HWUgeoenergy to conduct pore scale hydrogen flow experiments to examine salt precipitation under reservoir conditions.
