I spent a lot of time working on this one. Seeing rising antisemitism is putting a pit in my stomach, but I've grown exhausted by the fact that we aren't talking about its true source: the far right.
There's a reason the right spends millions on the lie that antisemitism is a left wing phenomenon: antisemitism is the glue that hold's fascism's paradoxical combination of "populist" and elitist rhetoric together. We must attack it at its source.

The PR machine around AI doom threats and the one that was behind Iraq WMD threats are weirdly similar! Maybe there is something to learn from this...
AI Panic, Hasan Freakout, Financial Bubble: the world is deeply stupid right now. Luckily, we learned how to deal with it 20 years ago, we just didn't...yet.

I always love editing @blimp_juice, equal parts insightful and hilariouis. He was supposed to write a totally different essay, but instead came out with this banger. It's the start of a roadmap to getting us out of this stupid fucking situation we're all in.

“There is also an optimism in dismissing fears of AI Doomsday as mere marketing. This optimism is most palpable in the economic bubble piece of this story. For some, the AI bubble bursting functions as a kind of Biblical Flood, promising to wash away all of the issues arising from the AI industry. When it finally happens, we will be free of AI customer service agents, AI psychosis, AI in education, AI taking over our jobs, and so on. Unfortunately, this is generally not how bubbles work. Most crucially, the real problem with this narrative is that there are real reasons to be afraid. Not in a “Skynet superintelligent AI turning on humanity in a sci-fi judgment day scenario,” but in the incredibly banal “as soon as the powers that be find AI models sufficiently capable to be put in charge of defense, weapons development and guidance (including bioweapons), and information, they will do it.” Smiling serenely and saying (correctly) AI is not super intelligent or sentient will not stop it from being used as though it is. Therein lies the real existential threat: not Skynet, but Shitty Skynet.” Bravo to @Ord_Snowflake on this excellent contribution to the conversation about AI. Whether you are persuaded by fears of superintelligence or not, the things we need to do to prevent the most catastrophic risks are the same. Let’s come together and do it! powermapmag.substack.com/p/s…

Fantastic article on how DSA should approach AI from @Ord_Snowflake in Power Map. The section below is so important for thinking about how we can direct popular AI fears towards the growth of the socialist movement.

Brilliant balancing of the contradictions and potentials for left organizing around AI, and tech writ large. Read this if you're organizing around data centers, AI, tech oppression, surveillance policing.

The best take yet on the whole “how should the left talk about AI doom fears” question

I really enjoyed editing @Ord_Snowflake's essay on AI. I think she does a fantastic job bridging the gap between the two factions on AI Doom and offers a sobering analysis of how AI could fuck things up for us, even if it doesn't kill us all.

Read my latest in Power Map where I argue we need to cut through the noise of the AI Doomsday debate and build the largest coalition we can if we want to have any hope of regulating AI – at Hoboken, NJ

After Zohran, the organized left is in a great position. Too bad it's lead to us fighting a bunch. I try to make sense of things.
As any organizer knows, victory can be exhilarating, but it can also be disorganizing. @danielisgoulden writes about the debates roiling the New York City left in the wake of Zohran's victory.

Very much enjoyed this. I think the success of the ZM administration is damn near essential for the broader left-wing project, and currently supersedes the need to have one or two more DSA members in Congress (though I'd love that). Lander is a clear improvement over Goldman.

we are taking on one of the worst cliches in politics
Did the Mamdani-Trump meeting preview a new kind of “bottom vs top” politics? Does Marjorie Taylor Green transcend political labels? Is it time to move beyond "left vs right" entirely? No! Organizer @blimp_juice on the only two sides there are: powermapmag.com/it-is-about-…

This week, lefitst antiwar group Code Pink met and congratulated Marjorie Taylor Green for her "anti war" activism. This piece gets at why that was fucking stupid.

Today, with the author’s permission, we offer you a re-printing of a piece Rose DuBois wrote for @PowerMapMag. She lays out how Janet Mills embodies a status quo line that does not meet the moment, and is a bad choice to represent Mainers in the Senate. pineandroses.org/opinion/mai…

Like all radical centrists, @TheArgumentMag's real project is to excuse the evils of the right. @blimp_juice on why we should stop taking Right Wing Excusers in good faith, and start treating them like the fascism enablers they are.

Instead of endlessly asking "stupid or evi?" about the pundit class who always says "move right," just tell them they're Right Wing Excusers and that they should stop. Or use your own preferred wording, up to you.
