Over 800,000 people are severely or profoundly deaf, and 87,000 rely on sign language as their primary form of communication. Let’s not create any barriers for those who feel isolated.

I cannot stress enough how important it is you watch this gorilla bathe-dancing to maniac.
Can’t believe it’s delayed further, what’s the reason(s) or even excuses ?
Replying to @NDCS_UK
In England, we’re also disappointed to find out that the BSL GCSE is delayed and unlikely to be available in September 2025, as planned.
Together with deaf young people in England, we've fought for this for years. It’s incredibly frustrating that they will still be waiting.

Bumping this again as no one replied. Come on, Deaf UK Twitter and BSL interpreters. What is our experience? DM me if don't want to feedback publicly.
Is anyone else finding that DWP staff are hanging up on VRS interpreted calls? Or even call centre staff refusing to accept VRS video calls? Let me know as I plan to write to Liz Kendall and I wanted to know the true scale of this problem. Liz is local MP to @leicesterdeaf

The UN says the Govt is still failing to address its systemic violations of disabled people's rights.
Rather than act on the UN recommendations, Ministers still challenge them!
You can't convince disabled people that 14 years of Tory govt have been anything short of disastrous
Thankyou @vickyfoxcroft you were so right to raise this, thankyou. We are supporting 13 Deaf people in London alone, with new applications and COC's further delayed by unclear communication from ATW - waiting list grew from 12 weeks to 20 weeks to 26 weeks in 3 weeks !
Unbelievable: waiting list to an adviser is now 6 months, this week ATW advised ‘ applications made at end of Nov 23 are now being seen to’ no hope for new starters / CoC’s who need BSL /LSP support at work

Great news but … Mim Davies please note …
Now we finally have a new minister for Disabled , please can we sort out Access to Work soonest as it’s one big crisis stopping deaf people getting the support they need

Took a bunch of books to WH Smith’s book cycle and got a £10 gift card! It’s so worth doing if you have a bunch of books taking up space that you won’t read again

A quite staggering and offensive level of ignorance in this video clip.
Replying to @ElissaNoves
🧵 Clips below:
Cllr Hammersley: "Is it something in the water?"
"Why are there so many people jumping out with these needs? Where were they when I was at school?"
"Why do so many people have this badge of SEND and special needs?"
"To stop this spend fix the problem at source"
Just wish I had the time to publicise a name and shame list of companies who request this ‘ deaf persons voice madness ‘to confirm nothing at all, anyone can ‘fake’ any voice, right ?

Agree with you @AdamCSchembri Checked out the bsl gcse curriculum, rather challenging for sure, prioritising resources / funds first for deaf kids and families to learn BSL as well as increase numbers / availability of bsl teachers to be addressed too #bslgcse
