🌊 This Sunday marks World Rivers Day, a global celebration of the waterways that connect communities, move commerce, and sustain ecosystems around the world.
Here at Ports of Indiana, we don't have to look far to see that connection in action. Two of our three ports — Mount Vernon and Jeffersonville — sit right on the banks of the Ohio River, one of the most vital inland waterways in the country. Every day, barges move grain, steel, fertilizer, and countless other goods along this river, linking Hoosier businesses to markets across the globe while keeping thousands of trucks off the road.
Rivers like the Ohio aren't just infrastructure; they're lifelines. They shape how we grow, trade, and connect as a state, and they deserve our attention and care well beyond one day a year.
This World Rivers Day, we're proud to celebrate the Ohio River and the role it plays in Indiana's economy.

🌊 Today is World Maritime Day!
Each year, the @IMOHQ (IMO) sets aside this day to spotlight the industry that keeps global trade moving — safely, securely, and sustainably.
We live this every day at Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor. As Indiana’s deep-water port on Lake Michigan, Burns Harbor connects Hoosier businesses to the St. Lawrence Seaway and global markets — moving steel, grain, wind energy components, and more.
It's easy to overlook how much of daily life depends on ships and ports. Over 80% of the world's trade travels by sea, and every ton that crosses our docks at Burns Harbor is part of that story.

Some cargo doesn't fit in a box — literally.
Wind turbine blades the length of a football field. Storage tanks too wide for a standard trailer. Coils too heavy for everyday freight. This is project cargo: the oversized, high-value equipment that powers projects across the Midwest — and it takes a different kind of port to handle it.
At Burns Harbor, we offer:

️🗓️Starting today, our team will be on the ground in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center for @Break_Bulk Breakbulk Americas; the largest trade event in the Americas for project cargo and heavy-lift logistics.
With two port facilities on the Ohio River and another on Lake Michigan, Ports of Indiana is well-positioned to move oversized and project cargo efficiently through the heart of the country.
We're looking forward to connecting with shippers, EPCs (engineering, procurement, and construction firms), carriers, and logistics partners to talk about how Indiana's port system supports complex, high-value projects from barge to rail to road.
📍Stop by Stand D36 to talk cargo solutions - we'd love to connect.

🚂 This week is See Tracks? Think Train® Week (Sept. 21–27), marking 10 years of this national rail safety observance from @olinational, and it hits close to home for us at Ports of Indiana.
Rail safety isn't just a slogan for us; it's part of daily operations.
Our ports in Burns Harbor, Jeffersonville, and Mount Vernon rely on rail as a core part of how we move cargo. Rail connectivity is one of the things that makes our multimodal ports work: freight moves seamlessly between vessel, truck, and train, and that means our teams, tenants, and neighboring communities regularly share space with active tracks.
The message is simple: see tracks, think train. Always expect a train, obey signals and gates, and never assume a track is inactive… even in an industrial setting like ours where rail traffic is part of the everyday landscape.
This week, we're proud to stand with Operation Lifesaver and rail partners across the country in reinforcing that message for our employees, our tenants, and everyone who lives and works near our ports.

Ports of Indiana was proud to serve as a bronze sponsor at the 2026 Midwest U.S.-Japan Association (MWJA) Conference in Indianapolis this past week!
The event brought together business and government leaders from across the Midwest and Japan to discuss trade, investment, and innovation. And it was a great opportunity for our team to connect with current and potential Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) customers.
Foreign Trade and Economic Development Director Dexter Salenda and Foreign-Trade Zone Director Kent Ebbing represented POI at the conference, where they heard insightful remarks from @GovBraun and other keynote speakers on strengthening manufacturing, workforce development, and U.S.-Japan partnerships.
Thank you to the Japan-America Society of Indiana and the @Indiana_EDC for hosting a fantastic event that highlights Indiana's role as a global logistics and trade hub.

Federal policy decisions ripple straight down to Indiana's ports and the businesses we serve. That's why Josh Webb, our Director of Government Affairs, was in Washington, D.C. earlier this week for the @IndianaChamber D.C. INsider forum.
The two-day event connected Hoosier business leaders directly with Indiana's congressional delegation and federal officials, covering the legislation, tariffs and rulemaking shaping our state's economy. Josh was there sharing Ports of Indiana's perspective and staying ahead of the federal issues that matter most to our ports and the industries we support.
Thanks to the Indiana Chamber for organizing another valuable convening.

Twenty-five years ago today, September 11, 2001 changed our country forever. For many of us, it is a day we remember in exact detail — where we were, who we called, how it felt to watch the world change in real time.
Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the first responders and everyday people who showed extraordinary courage, and hold space for the families and communities still carrying that loss.
A quarter-century later, we remain grateful for the courage and compassion shown that day, and we carry that memory forward as a reminder of who we can be for one another. We will never forget.
