Yay! the AAR recognized @CharlesMcCrary, @AOghoghomeh , and
@wmcalvoquiros contributions to American religious studies. I am also thrilled that @rgraybill1 's excellent book on sexual violence in the Hebrew Bible was recognized. What a batch of books!

I treated myself to a morning of reading the names of the 3,000+ people who signed a petition on behalf of my Religious Studies department at UNCG and it made me cry.
It feels very good to have Religious Studies stand up for us. If you have already signed the petitions thank you, if you have not, please consider doing so.
The Religious Studies department at UNC Greensboro is at risk! Sign the petitions now to fight to preserve the academic study of religion: aarweb.org/AARMBR/Publicatio…

Standing by to support my colleagues at UNCG, which announced drastic cuts (including the depts of Religious Studies, Anthro, Physics). The chancellor got the number of RS majors wrong in his announcement, repeated by this article: there are 27, not 4. triad-city-beat.com/breaking…

If you're going to be at AAR please come hear what David Walker, @soniahazard , Brett Grainger, Emily Clark, and I have been up to with Shaker celibacy, spirit tourists, mystical modernist feminist art, and a Black Shaker prophet. Plus @LMaffKipp responding!
I was going to love the Vaster Wilds anyway (little freaks of Christianity), BUT I did not anticipate its kinship with two other great cultural works: The Witch of Blackbird Pond and Alone!
I really wish they were selling a Lauren Groff one so that I could attract all the right people at AAR:

This is bad NYT. This list looks like it's "representative," but it's actually a scattershot. Schools like UNC Greensboro serve 52% Pell grant recipients (as many as the list's top 5).
nytimes.com/interactive/2023…
Why does it matter that many non-flagship public schools are left out of this list? Because if you included them all it would be clear that they are far and away serving the majority of Pell grant recipients (no shade to slacs that are making an effort).
Some days I want to write social history, other days I want to write fan theories about Merve Emre and her friends.
HDS is soooo lucky to get Marla Frederick as their new dean! I would also like to celebrate David Hempton who is the loveliest human and who writes bangers on Methodism that bridge the gap between E.P. Thompson and the American study of evangelicalism. @HarvardDiv

Still flabbergasted by this data released about earnings of @CUBoulder alums. Take a look-see at that there top line. Feel free to share this with the next troll who asks you what you can do with a degree in History.
