“It was a string of numbers they gave me. It will never work," @jacogr says, recalling his first @Bitcoin impressions.
In the latest "People of Parity," we talk to Jaco about @PolkadotJs, opportunities on Substrate + @polkadotnetwork, & monkey shoes. 🐵👟

Want to put your skills to some good use? We've added some bounties to the polkadot-js UI github.com/polkadot-js/apps/… - thanks to the @web3foundation for making this possible
Running the polkadot-js full-node inside a browser with a ws-star libp2p transport, WASM execution and no persistent storage. Stuff that shouldn't be done, but has some weird attraction... Fun, but the light node work is just starting and the real aim...
The polkadot-js Runtime Environment client is being updated to support the latest era chains. Here it is syncing the Substrate Dried Danta chain.
Developers love playing. So we added a basic JS console with an attached API into polkadot.js.org/apps/ - not perfect yet, but we didn't to wait to start getting feedback. Explore examples, edit to your linking.
Rather late than never, i.e. this update was "somewhat" delayed... This was the first block authored by a non-Parity validator on the Polkadot Alexander (poc-3) testnet - poc-3.polkadot.io/#/explorer…
Thanks @chevdor
And the Alexander testnet has been launched... quietly... Well, time to make some noise: head over to polkadot.js.org/apps/, create an account and start begging for some testnet DOTs.
Charred Cherry now available as an endpoint on polkadot.js.org/apps/next/ (replacing BBQ Birch). We are inching closer to the Alexander testnet release.

Happy to report that @polkadotnetwork is progressing at breakneck speed. Here's a recap of 2018. medium.com/@gavofyork/polkad…
The JS full node implementation has been updated (networking, Trie, runtime interfaces) to support the current Substrate master. Syncing along nicely on a local dev chain.
The Trie libraries has been updated to support PoC-3 era encoding with blake2 hashing and substrate-specific trie encoding. One step closer to being ready for the PoC-3 launch.
Transaction subscriptions are now undergoing testing on the apps/next - tracking any submitted extrinsic and showing the real-time status. What is next? State and block events...
PoC-3 support coming along nicely. For a preview (against Substrate master or BBQ Birch) take a look at the current state polkadot.js.org/apps/next/#/… - no rest for the wicked.
