In @Politicsweb today, Dave Steward wrote a seminal piece in his reading of the Mbeki-report.
politicsweb.co.za/news/mbeki…
“The Mbeki document is a sad indication of the degree to which its authors – probably including the former President – have lost all contact with reality. Were the SACP and Cosatu – who were primarily responsible for President Mbeki’s defeat at Polokwane and for South Africa’s catastrophic decline – really working for a sinister Afrikaner counter revolution? Or did they manage it all by themselves?
If the authors of the document are so bereft of any understanding of the real nature of South Africa’s problems and of how we came to this sorry pass, how can they be expected to make a positive contribution to the search for the solutions that we so desperately need?
It is also a reflection of the degree to which they remain enmeshed in the racial/Marxist gobbeldy-gook of the NDR. Afrikaners are not their enemy.
They are not involved in a sinister counter-revolution to re-establish apartheid. They are simply providing for themselves – and for others – the basic services that government at all levels is so manifestly failing to provide. They have no wish to re-establish any form of apartheid: they are just claiming their right, as one of South Africa’s constituent communities, to the cultural and language guarantees that are core elements of the 1996 constitutional accord”.

Eureka! Mbeki blames 30 years of ANC failure on an Afrikaner plot. His evidence-free theory – packaged as an academic treatise – is laughable. But it’s that old ANC pathology again: nothing that goes wrong is its own fault. WSM’s column on Politicsweb.

SA's crime whirlwind is the product of ANC policies of political terror of 50 years ago. Because that history was deliberately skated over, those tactics were never unambiguously disavowed. Which is why they mutated, thrived, and continue bearing bitter fruit today.
The white crosses mark SA's moral abyss. A president who won’t repudiate racial incitement, a judiciary that won’t acknowledge its dangers, and a commentariat that prefers to explain away the resulting fear rather than examine its causes. WSM’s column on @Politicsweb.

The ANC was putting its foot down on the NDR at the time Trump issued his executive order, something which would have destroyed the DA and undone the GNU. It was precisely the White House's intervention that forced the ANC to put the brakes on, and allowed the new govt to "work". @matthew_winkler
Never mind what the White House says. South Africa's political turning point is proving durable, making Africa's largest economy more attractive to global investors, says @Matthew_Winkler bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

Fikile Mbalula is staggering towards the upcoming municipal elections like a drunkard in a minefield. His defamation action against Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma over her claims of vote buying in ANC leadership elections may blow up not only in his face, but that of Cyril Ramaphosa. Missed IEC deadlines. Afraid to name its mayoral candidates for fear of internal ructions. A president sinking under the weight of the Phala Phala albatross. The ANC is a in organisational and factional chaos.

Why does an English-speaking Joburg guy take the US ‘Afrikaner’ refugee programme gap? It’s not about cowardice. And it’s certainly not about genocide. But it is about systematic racial exclusion and the threat of targeted violence. WSM’s column on @Politicseb.

Thousands of ANC councillors are about to lose their jobs. Also municipal officials — employed not on merit but on race, party membership or family connections — who will struggle to find new work. And then, the criminal networks that join the two groups. None will go quietly. WSM's column on @Politicsweb.

The irony of this attempted line of attack, is that Nelson Mandela had the greatest respect for Constand Viljoen (who played a key role in saving SA from civil war). He regarded the Nat-Broederbond-types whom Basson valorises here with almost total contempt.

The point of the malign info operations being run in SA is not to present the corrupt as honest - which is no longer possible - it is to present the honest as corrupt, so that ordinary people are no longer able to distinguish between the two.
A long but important BizNews interview where Mark Burke finally sets out his - and Kastelo's - side of the story about the dispute with the Reserve Bank. It was predictable, however, that going into LGE 2026 pro-regime journalists and influencers would run malign info ops against (non-compromised) DA figures. xitter.cf/alechogg/status/209077…
No, this is completely wrong. The "regime" is the failed, self-serving and embedded power structure formed over the past thirty years through (non-constitutional) policies such as cadre deployment etc. The malign info operations referred to are being used to try and obstruct a democratic correction at local govt level.
Replying to @franstaar
The word “regime” is used to describe illegitimate, undemocratic and authoritarian states. The “apartheid regime”, for eg. You don’t have to like our government, but it was formed after a democratic election and in terms of the Constitution.
It is akin to the relationship between the Neue Zeit and the government it reported on in Germany in the 1950s. Reporting and commentary can be technically highly accomplished - and out of favour politicians stridently condemned - but the basic instinct is always to defend the existing power structure and system, and attack those who threaten it.
