Coverage this morn of the appalling Sarah Everard case misses the point, with emphasis on how rare abduction and murder is. The outcry it’s initiated is about women being in fear of harassment and assault while out after dark. And that, dismally, is not rare. The fear is endemic.

What happened to Sarah Everard has hit home hard for so many women because we make the calculations she did every day too. We take the longer, better-lit route, push the fear aside for the voice that says ‘don't be daft, you've every right to walk home alone at night and be safe’

This just in from today’s coronavirus briefing: 3.8% of Scotland’s coronavirus tests have come back as positive in the past 24 hours, down from 5.2% yesterday.
When the positivity rate is under 5%, the WHO classes coronavirus as being under control.

It’s rare that I shop in m&s but popped in today and the only venison on sale was from NZ. When our native and exotic deer species are at wholly unsustainable population levels, why on earth are we flying in venison thousands of miles from another hemisphere?!
