This is a brilliant read for any employers or careers folks grappling with student engagement 👏 #studentengagement #earlycareers #futuretalent #EmpLab23
Great reference to the brilliant blog by @edfoster by @TomLowe_ at #EmpLab23

Love the idea of the behaviour lab @LeedsUniBSchool to observe, understand and develop student behaviour through immersive #hybridwork simulations. Love using experiential research to inform how we look at career transitions and progression to hybrid work. #emplab23

Super interesting from @HelenPNHughes at #EmpLab23 - Students and graduates tend to dismiss the value of their peers in their network. We need to help them to understand the value that this aspect of their network holds for them both now and in their future careers.❤️

Gratifying to hear @MikeGradconsult reference Recruitability as only one piece of the puzzle in #Careers work - Helen feels that focus on digital tools can sometimes miss out the socio-digital aspect e.g. how to 'get on' in work, rather than just 'get in' to a job.

The @RussellGroup has fantastic unis but in itself is not a overarching measure of quality. There are ace unis outside the RG, some of which outperform a lot of the RG at a course or KPI level. The best hospital is not necessarily the one which takes in the healthiest patients...

Read. This. Thread.

The more I think about this, the more I can see it bringing about the end of union membership for many colleagues, who will resign from the @UCU with the thought that their interests are not really being represented, and never really were #practicewhatyoupreach
Zero consultation and a flat-rate levy that will disproportionately impact precarious and low-paid colleagues really doesn’t inspire the confidence that @UCU fully understands one of the “four fights” it claims to be representing our interests in #readtheroom
ThePlacementOfficer retweeted
.@UCU members: We don’t care whose idea it was. The flat rate levy is unfair. Fix this or lose lower paid, casualised, precarious members.
UCU: Our top priority right now is *checks notes* pointing fingers and infighting about who is to blame for the existence of the levy

Replying to @ucu
It's midday & no response yet from @DrJoGrady @ucu & most branches. A reversal of the decision by close of business seems unlikely. More likely by day's end is mass cancellation of memberships. I'm certainly giving serious thought to cancelling mine.
ThePlacementOfficer retweeted
Sorry @UCU, 'the bad UCU made me do it' just doesn't cut it.

After reading the email ('noreply') I came to Twitter to find out if I was alone in feeling incredulous at a flat rate fee. It seems I was not.

Thanks @ucu - your blanket levy is another, firm slap in the arse as the door closes behind me & so many other precariously employed peeps whose contracts are ending rn.
How is this mindful of the 4 fights campaign and the varying circs. of your members?
Seriously tone-deaf.

I don’t know about anyone else but I certainly didn’t realise that I was giving @ucu access to my bank account. WTF.

Hi @ucu - I’m a brand new member. It’s taken me a while to join because I have only very recently felt in a financial position to do so. It is concerning that you are taking additional money out of my account without consultation or permission. I decide when I donate. Not you.

Woah, just read the @ucu levy email. Sorry, but every little counts now - especially for precarious members of staff who have already had strike pay hits (and still have more coming over the summer). I'm not ok with the union just taking money like this.

Hi @ucu, I’ve never been so sorely tempted to resign my membership. Coincidentally, my financial need to save my subs has never been greater! Raiding members’ bank accounts when you feel like it is not ok, whatever you muttered very quietly in February
ThePlacementOfficer retweeted
A flat rate levy!?!? @ucu are you actually serious? If you want to kick out casualised staff then you couldn't have come up with a better approach.
You have members earning over 100k and members on casual contracts earning less than 10k and they should all pay the same - WHY?
