One of @mariaressa's most interesting observations:
“If you’re the target of attack, the goal is not to make you believe anything. It is to pound you to silence.”
That changes how you think about misinformation.
The objective doesn’t always have to be convincing people that X is true.
Flood the information environment with enough accusations, counterclaims and uncertainty, and people can end up somewhere else entirely:
“I have no idea what’s true anymore.”
That may be more powerful than belief in any single falsehood.
The hardest truth problem isn’t always misinformation.
Sometimes it’s epistemic exhaustion.
