Silicon Valley legend Steve Blank on what sets Starship apart: "When we look at Starship, Elon's model is 'If we're not blowing stuff up, we're not innovating. And if we're not blowing them up fast enough, we're not innovating fast enough.' Different culture, different people, different risk profiles... Everyone understands that Falcon 9 pays your salary, but Starship will pay your pension."
A comparison of the real footage and the render of Starship deploying V3 Starlink satellites in space. They look the same. SpaceX made sci-fi real!

Under @POTUS’s leadership and @SecWar’s direction, we are crushing bureaucratic inertia to forge the U.S. Army Futures and Autonomous Systems Command. By prioritizing autonomy across our formations, acquisitions, and training, we are delivering lethal capabilities straight into the hands of our warfighters to dominate the future battlefield.

A new era of mine countermeasures is here, and it’s built on rapid, unmanned response. In contested choke points, operators must be able to remotely deploy USV-launched drones to hunt and destroy mines anywhere from seabed to surface. In May, DIU issued a Prize Challenge for small Unmanned Surface Vessel (sUSV) payloads to reacquire and neutralize mines. DIU has awarded prizes to @BeeXSG, @BlackSea_Tech, and @vatnsystems following their successful demonstrations in the MCM Modernization event. “From a prize challenge announcement to an active Navy contract in just 92 days, we are accelerating advanced mine neutralization technology into our naval fleets with operational urgency,” said Dr. Jarred Conley, Portfolio Director, Autonomous Warfare. This achievement arms warfighters for a more aggressive operational tempo at standoff, keeping sea lanes free and clear for safe transit. drpmras.navy.mil/press-relea… @DRPM_RAS

It’s pretty incredible how much has happened in South Florida just in 2026: • Jan 12: Vanderbilt moves forward with a ~$520M West Palm Beach campus. Stephen Ross commits $50M. • Jan 20: Wells Fargo moves its Wealth & Investment Management HQ to West Palm Beach. ~$16B annual revenue business. • Jan 27: D-Wave moves its corporate HQ from Palo Alto → Boca Raton and builds a major R&D operation at BRiC. • Jan 27: FAU commits $20M to bring a D-Wave quantum computer to Boca and build out its quantum ecosystem. • Feb 17: Palantir moves its HQ from Denver → South Florida. • Mar 25: KKR opens a permanent office in Miami. • June 2: Pine Crest announces a new West Palm Beach campus. Stephen Ross ultimately commits $100M to the project. • Sep 10: Andreessen Horowitz announces a West Palm Beach regional HQ for its $1.176B American Dynamism fund. • Sep 11: Stephen Ross / Related Ross buys BRiC in Boca: 124 acres + 1.7M sq. ft. of space. • Sep 30: Ken Griffin gives Carnegie Mellon $3 BILLION, the largest individual gift in higher-ed history. $2B goes toward building CMU Miami in Wynwood for 3,500+ students. And this is on top of Citadel building its new Miami HQ and Stephen Ross planning $10B+ of investment across Palm Beach County. Vanderbilt. Carnegie Mellon. Palantir. D-Wave. a16z. KKR. Wells Fargo. Citadel. FAU. Pine Crest. Miami → Fort Lauderdale → Boca → West Palm. Feels like South Florida is hitting an inflection point, and we’re just getting started. This reads much more naturally for X/LinkedIn while keeping the numbers that make the story impressive.

I find it funny that some people got hung up on Starship not having gone orbital before Flight 14 when in the grand scheme of things it was completely arbitrary in terms of performance. The 19ish second burn only added about 91 m/s of velocity (a 1.2% increase in velocity) This capability has been physically capable since Flight 6 which demonstrated a single Raptor relight in space. Heck, Flight 13’s burn was about 14 seconds, but intentionally oriented to primarily do a plane change instead of a prograde insertion burn for continued safety. Any of the relights COULD have done the orbital insertion burn, the duration was not of any special technical capability. The reason Starship didn’t go orbital until Flight 14 is probably what we should applaud them for the most… SAFETY. Their methodical approach to getting good data and going one step at a time while hucking the single most massive object ever put into space proves they weren’t just doing things haphazardly, despite the occasional narrative from the outside. While it’s easy to compare Starship to vehicles like SLS or Vulcan or New Glenn, the reality is the focus hasn’t been on orbit, it’s been all on the “downhill” side of that. Safe and targeted de-orbit, clean reentry, targeted and soft splashdown. That’s the part that has (almost) never been done before. And here I do have to add a little Space Shuttle admiration for figuring out a lot of these things on its first flight in 1981 (although it came a bit close to not being successful). Pretty amazing there was a vehicle of similar scale capable of such precise deorbit and reentry that it landed on a runway with no go-around capabilities. Crazy. But Starship is well on a path to absolutely leap-frog the Space Shuttle in terms of performance (already over double and someday 6 fold) and hopefully in terms of full and rapid reuse. I hope we see the latter part speed up even more now that orbit has been demonstrated. Exciting times ahead!!! Keep going @spacex @elonmusk

The Pentagon's 300-page RFP "was designed for a lawyer and a lobbyist and a prime contractor to know how to fill out." That's Emil Michael, Under Secretary of War for Research & Engineering, saying it out loud to a room full of founders at our Startup Industrial Base event in DC today. A 10-person startup reads 300 pages, gets one thing wrong, gets kicked out. Or survives and grinds through 3, 6, 9, 12 month rounds until it's two years in. Meanwhile the prime has a team whose whole job is filling out every page perfectly. Emil’s fix? Write a one pager not 300. "I need to fly a missile 500 miles in this kind of environment." If your payload won't work, you hear that fast. Target is 90 days. Drone Dominance runs the same way. Apply, top 20 go to a fly-off, objective metrics, cuts every round, and he says half a billion dollars of orders at the end. "I'd rather know if I lose and why." Miss round one and there are more rounds coming, and "it'll be 2 or 3" winners, not one. Cost per intercept is the game now. Shoot down a $50k drone with a Patriot missile and "the math doesn't math." He's funding directed energy and high power microwave that cost thousands, not millions. The tech was never what kept startups out. The 300 pages were. Two pages and a fly-off means the best product can actually win, and the prime has to compete like everyone else.

BOLSTERING THE DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE: @BretBaier examines efforts to overhaul the defense industrial base through stable, multi-year funding frameworks and a growing reliance on agile commercial startups. As Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael Duffey notes, multi-billion-dollar deals with prime contractors like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman are locking in production for critical systems like Tomahawk, THAAD, and Patriot interceptors. Meanwhile, the Defense Innovation Unit and next-gen tech firms like Castelion and Rocket Lab are utilizing rapid commercial manufacturing practices to scale up hypersonic capabilities and outpace modern threats.
