We can also talk about the strong and multiple times confirmed link of the east African high carbohydrate diet that was key to their superior performance when they started dominating running in the 1960s. But deniers will keep deny the reality
You know the story Andrew @afehrsen - association does not prove causation. Have you ever visited Kenya or Ethiopia to observed what is the traditional diet and why it is eaten? It's eaten because maize (ugali in Kenya) and injera (an Ethiopian flatbread made from teff) are the staple, high carbohydrate foods eaten by the world's elite marathon runners from those two African countries because that is what the rural populations from which the greatest runners arise, can best afford to eat. All the greatest marathon runners in Kenya and Ethiopia do not start their lives surrounded by privilege and affluence - in fact the exact opposite. So the range of foods from which they can choose is severely restricted compared to norms in the Western world. In fact many argue is that it is exactly the extremely tough living conditions in which these runners grow up that engenders their desire to make a living as professional marathon runners. There are few other options - certainly that provides very high motivation for the few who are successful. So is it their diet or their tough living conditions that explain why the elite (top 3) marathon runners from these countries are eating high carbohydrate diets when they succeed as elite marathon runners? Again, association does not prove causation. You can't split a subsistence high carbohydrate diet from the poverty that causes it to be eaten (and provides the motivation to become an elite runner), as the reason for the success of elite East African marathon runners. Runners who grow up in the industrialized countries eating a different diet might be different and have different dietary needs? Just asking. @PhilipPrins11 @AKoutnik @LoreofRunning1 @sweatscience

At some point in the future, I'll share a presentation that goes through male vs female physiological differences and the biological reality of sport, to explain what some have (wilfully) misunderstood. But for now, here's a pen review of this absurdity promoted by @BJSM_BMJ

Imagine if @WorldAthletics changed the rules of the diamond league half way through the year? Well just days before La Coruna they reclassified it from A to GL, which will definitely cost athletes (probably myself) prize money in the overall tour. Absolute BS they can do that. – at Richmond, British Columbia
