"I'm ashamed of my government as politicians for having allowed this to go ahead." Former Cabinet Minister Iain Duncan Smith says action is needed to stop tax being charged to thousands of workers going back to 1999 on income paid via loans that never needed repaying #r4today

📝 I have written to our new Prime Minister @BorisJohnson and Chancellor @sajidjavid calling on them to take immediate action on the unfair and retrospective loan charge. With a new Government in place it’s time for an independent review of this policy. #StopTheLoanCharge ⛔️

Do not believe a word this man says. He is destroying the flexible labour market that would enable this industry to thrive. #FinTech companies and its workers will be retrospectively taxed if you set up here. Move to a country where tax certainty is assured. #FinTechCharge2039

@MelJStride your name has come up several times in the @UKHouseofLords this afternoon. The associated words to describe you being ‘disgraceful’ ‘in contempt’ and ‘discourteous’ and all in relation to the #loancharge @EmmaAgyemang I’m sure you will report on the debate

The latest sinister turn to the #LoanChargeScandal is attempts to suspend Twitter accounts alongside a big push to try to stop MPs talking about suicides claiming it isn’t ‘responsible’ & Conservative MPs being pushed to defend Mel Stride & deny his demonstrable misinformation!

At Last, a voice of hope and reason for people unfairly bludgeoned. #IR35 #LoanChargeScandal
The retrospective application of the 2019 Loan Charge is absolutely wrong. If the Government doesn't put it right then I, and the House of Commons, will act to limit HMRC's ability to take retrospective action against hard working taxpayers.

Think this must be @MelJStride’s attempt at an #AprilFool. The #LoanCharge opens closed tax years where @HMRCgovuk signed off tax returns as fine, its demonstrably #retrospective! Plus the Supreme Court, as Mel knows, did not say that loans are taxable! That’s the true #FACT!
The Loan Charge is not retrospective: Fact #1 The Supreme Court unanimously found the schemes were never effective 👩‍⚖️ Fact#2 The 2016 Budget gave scheme users three years to repay the loans, which are still outstanding today, or settle 💷

Thanks for sharing. In Finland we have a housing first policy where it's understood that it's almost impossible for a homeless person to get out of poverty. Providing people with decent housing saves money in the long run with less crime, emergency care etc.
