🚨READ CAREFULLY TO THE END. IMPORTANT:
Yesterday, while i was offline, i was busy saving a life that others already assumed were as good as lost. Well, they say with me, no one can ever say never till i pull off my ward coat or drop my stethoscope.
Bottom line of this beautiful story is, she is out of coma but will DEFINITELY survive. I give her a week or two and she will be back to her family, in fullness of health and joy.
But this is not the point of this post or why i tell this story. I am telling this as a form of
ADVICE to you who will bother reading this:
Knowing the Laws of your country is VERY IMPORTANT cos when you know the laws, you would clock RIGHTS you didn’t know you have, even as you sit and read this post.
Please tell me how this female patient would have stood a chance at survival if she didn’t have HEALTH INSURANCE. What would have been more sad wouldn’t have been the fact that a disease killed her but the fact that she could NOT afford to treat herself, having managed to get to the hospital faintly ALIVE.
The thing is, most people don’t know that in 2022 precisely, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act was signed into Law and mandates, adminonishes and encourages all citizens in Nigeria to have insurance, preventing issues with first stage payments at arrival at hospitals.
This is what has contributed to saving this woman’s life and she will realise that when she is fully fit in some day’s time. She heeded this admonition and see how it is paying off for her. Her bills are not the problem at all, even though they are well above her pay grade.
Being debied care cos you cannot pay a sum upfront, shouldn’t happen to anyone, with this law in existence.
So, as i have called out once before, i call out again: REGISTER YOU AND YOUR FAN TODAY! Not tomorrow. You cannot tell what tomorrow holds.

A country doesn't lose its moral compass in one dramatic event. It loses it gradually—each time society excuses a little dishonesty, rationalises a little corruption, celebrates a little impunity, and chooses loyalty to a person over loyalty to principle.

A hotel was recently caught on an electricity bypass and have been mandated to pay over ₦30 million in penalties before they can be reconnected to the grid.
The interesting part is that management is claiming they knew nothing about it. According to them, they only found out after the DisCo presented evidence showing that the prepaid meter had been tampered with.
An internal investigation later revealed that the hotel's facility manager was allegedly responsible for coordinating the bypass without the knowledge of the management. The scheme was carefully designed to conceal its existence and avoid raising suspicion.
From what I gathered, the scheme was quite clever.
The facility manager would bypass the meter so the hotel consumed more electricity from the grid while paying far less than they should. At the same time, he would present inflated diesel amount to management.
For instance, if management approved ₦5 million for diesel, he might buy only ₦3 million diesel and pocket the remaining ₦2 million. Since the electricity bills were coming in very low, nobody questioned the diesel expenses because they assumed the generators were carrying most of the load.
What management didn't realize was that the facility was actually relying heavily on grid power, but the bypass ensured that usage wasn't being properly recorded.
The arrangement reportedly went on for over six months before it was eventually discovered.
You see the atrocities people commit.
You see how people gain the system that feeds them.
You see how people contribute to the current problem we're facing as a country.

A Nigerian banking license in the 90s was 20 million Naira. Setting up a cheap branch then was about 340k Naira. I know this because I was actively involved in developing the business plan and obtaining the Oceanic Bank license.
How could a 34-year-old manager at one of the biggest banks in the country at the time (All States Trust Bank) raise 20 million Naira?
You need to be able to use your imagination to realize that things were not only much easier to do at the time, but that relationships built over your career also mattered.
There were two main gigs at heavily deregulated period of Nigerian financial services:
1. Building your own finance house with a lesser license or...
2. Building a bank with very little capital.
Many finance houses and banks were established, but many didn't survive, as they were only vehicles for FX round-tripping at a time when the gap between the official and parallel exchange rates was wide, due to the economic chaos created by the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP).
Some of my family members started KMC (Keneth Michael and Co), a finance house that failed, and later learned from that experience that it was better to acquire a bank. They boldly went for the biggest, as the government was also divesting from the banking sector, as mandated by the foreign lenders. They acquired UBA with around $12m Dollars raised in private placements.
Others followed other paths. Jim Ovia started one from scratch using the same fundraising mechanism others used in an era of market frothiness, when fortunes were being made from FX trading.
Tony Elumelu chose to acquire a smaller bank that was almost insolvent and undercapitalized. He turned it around, and it became the fastest-growing bank in Nigeria's history. They went after the segment most people ignored, the young and the poor. While account opening balances at other banks were high, they went lower. They practically owned the student market and were growing fast.
Fast forward to an era in which deregulation was halted due to high failure rates among banks and finance houses. There was a forced consolidation of banks, and it was a game of being bought or buying others. UBA faced significant internal turmoil, and the Central Bank removed the Chairman.
Standard Trust Bank moved in to merge with UBA in a strategic acquisition move that was unheard of in the industry. I still remember a 10-hour closed-door meeting with stakeholders before the deal was sealed.
One person most people have forgotten about, who was the architect of this deal, was the late Albert Egba Okumagba, the CEO of BGL Securities at the time. He was the architect of Tony's first and second acquisitions. The Capital market and the financial services sector were much more intertwined at the time.
Young men like the late Egba Okumagba and late Osaze Osifo shaped much of what we now know as today's behemoths through brilliant financial engineering and collaborative relationships. It is better for you to look for what you can build, like they did today, instead of peddling rumors on Twitter.
