Opening Round was such a stupid decision by the AFL.
Footy is officially back in 4 days and there seems to be nowhere near as much hype or excitement as there usually is for RD1.
We were told that Opening Round was implemented to try convert some NRL fans whilst the NRL was “out of town”.
That’s an okay idea in theory but when you look and see that on March 9th.
The Suns and Tigers play on the Gold Coast just over three hours before Titans and Illawarra play, 16 minutes down the road!
AND
GWS play Collingwood two hours after the Eels and Bulldogs game kicks off 19 minutes away.
The whole “out of town” narrative becomes a joke.
AFL is an amazing league to watch but, the organisation makes so many dumb decisions.

❌ Don’t pile on the kid from behind a keyboard
❌ Especially when you probably can’t shoot 86 yourself
❌ Let alone in a tournament
And maybe stop commenting on things you don’t understand

Credit to the PR team that Warner hired. They have certainly earned their fee. The crap I have seen and read in the media has been astounding. I cannot remember another player who has received this level of celebration. The media has portrayed him as some sort of god.
