Most SEOs define a "topic" as a keyword with the highest search volume.
@mcia_ says that's just the label. The actual topic is every synonym and phrasing variant someone uses for the same intent.
What's your test for "do we cover this topic"?
Fan-out queries are often nonsensical 10-word strings. Don't replace keyword research with them. Aggregate them for patterns, but stay grounded in real user behavior and volume. Layer, don't swap. How are you folding fan-out into your process?
