New on the PRSA website:
We’d all like our governments to represent us, the people.
Unfortunately the method we use to elect our governments doesn’t deliver representation that matches the diversity of views found in the electorate.

As Alberta votes on separation, remember "Western Alienation" grew after '80 when Liberals won a majority without seats west of MB & imposed the NEP.
Proportional representation would end distorted results painting entire provinces as one-party monoliths shut out of power.

ALT Map showing the popular vote and seat distribution by province and territory in the 1980 Canadian federal election. The image highlights a strong regional divide, with red shading across Eastern Canada where Pierre Trudeau's Liberals won a majority of seats—including 74 seats in Quebec and 52 in Ontario—while winning 0 seats west of Manitoba. Blue and orange shading cover Western Canada, where Joe Clark's Progressive Conservatives and Ed Broadbent's New Democrats won all seats in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.
In November, Alaska will again use ranked choice voting for all federal and state elections – including tight U.S. Senate & House races.

28 per cent of the vote -- by far the lowest winning percentage in modern Canadian history. And yet they still came within a few seats of a majority. Not quite as insane a result as it might have been, but still pretty insane.

To get #ProportionalRepresentation at the federal level, you would indeed need to repeal that 1967 federal law banning it.
But nothing stops cities and states from using it. We're working on the California state legislature. Several US cities including Portland *already* use PR.
