UK grid: paid ~9 GW of wind and hydro to chill out, then paid gas to clock in. £47.9m in a day. This is what local energy trading is for.
On 14 Oct, Britain's grid paid £47.9m in a day to switch off wind and fire up gas. LCP Delta says ~9 GW of wind and hydro was paid not to generate. A transmission problem, not a supply one. Using power close to where it's made is cheaper than paying to switch it off. via @guardian theguardian.com/business/202…

Liquidity was the problem in 2017. A record day on a decentralized exchange was 100k. @AltiusLabs's co-founder @_annabellehuang says it is mostly fixed now that Wall Street is in. What is left is infrastructure: running a chain securely, which she says is a high bar for app builders who are not blockchain experts. We also got into: - Crypto's talent drain to AI labs - Tokenized stocks vs options - Why perp DEXs fail - 24/7 trading The full episode is out now. youtu.be/B1v39H6LkTg

Electricity is the one input to growth that every other input depends on.
Energy capacity = economic capacity, in one chart There are no low electricity, rich countries

What this chart doesn’t show is how long it takes to connect new supply. In many markets the queue to connect solar and batteries to the grid is now longer than the time it takes to build them. The binding constraint on economic capacity is grid access.

- 2025: OpenAI says it had nothing to do with the Robinhood tokens carrying its name. - September 2026: AMC's CEO calls Robinhood's AMC stock tokens "vile" and says AMC had no involvement. - The same week: Robinhood's CEO replies, "What's the concern?" - 14 September: Robinhood says in-kind redemption and voting are coming for its stock tokens. Tokenisation has a language problem. I unpack it all in my latest @Forbes piece. forbes.com/sites/jemmagreen/…

Most companies are strapping AI onto workflows that were designed for humans. Then they’re confused when the ROI doesn’t show up. Lisa Emme and I talked about why we need to rethink AI workflows, whether the AI infrastructure buildout is a bubble, and why dependence on foreign frontier models is a strategic risk. every AI roadmap has one dependency nobody's willing to put a date on: interconnection
How mathematically impossible is the energy math behind the data center rollout? Just Texas alone is facing 474GW of interconnection requests (ERCOT), of which 90% is data centers. Which is why gov Abbott froze rollout of new data centers in Texas. For context, ERCOT all-time peak demand record is 91.1GW on July 22, 2026, with normal demand between 40 and 80GW. Of course, that's peak. In a more realistic scenario, Morgan Stanley sees the entire US short about 80-100GW through 2030, or a deficit of about 100 nuclear power plants.

$195B chasing tech. $25B chasing the energy that actually powers it. Backwards
BREAKING: Global technology equity funds have attracted +$195 billion in inflows over the last 12 months, the most of any major sector. This is more than the next 9 sectors combined. Inflows into tech funds have also doubled over the last 4 months. By comparison, industrials and materials funds, ranked 2nd and 3rd, have seen +$55 billion and +$45 billion in inflows, respectively, over the last 12 months. Energy funds have posted +$25 billion in inflows, while healthcare has attracted +$15 billion. Technology funds are dominating global investor demand.

The market isn't pricing AI results. It's pricing AI narrative, and the narrative changes daily. Spend too much, get punished. Don't disrupt fast enough, get punished. Actually turn a profit off the tech? Nobody's rewarding that yet, because almost nobody's done it. 95% of enterprise AI pilots show zero measurable P&L impact. Companies scrapped nearly half their AI proofs of concept before they ever reached production. And yet capex from the biggest spenders is up ~77% year over year, funded increasingly off-balance-sheet through joint ventures and private credit. Nobody in the industry agrees on what the end goal even is. Every major lab defines the target differently, if it defines one at all. One story from my conversation with @ScottSigel from @HeliumFndn is one of the clearest case of decentralisation at the community level. After hurricanes hit the US East Coast, entire communities lost power and cell service at the same time. The Helium team partnered with a local veterans group, put Helium hotspots in the back of a truck and had 20,000 phones back online in the blackout zone within hours. That's what decentralisation makes it possible. The people closest to a crisis had what they needed to solve it themselves. AI → more data centers → more electricity demand → more volatility → energy becomes a market, not just a utility. It means, power becomes more local flexibility becomes tradable consumers become market participants the grid becomes more decentralised Civilization is basically becoming a giant energy market.

Energy communities, not new transmission lines, are becoming the real resilience layer for the grid. The part that stalls most P2P energy trading pilots is proving the model without committing to infrastructure most teams can't justify yet. Our Transactive Lite is the fast path to that resilience layer. powerledger.io/media/introdu…

Arbor Energy's CEO Brad Hartwig says by the time developers show a town a polished presentation, the decisions that matter are already made. Data centers used to compete on power access alone. Now they compete on whether a town says yes.
