I call for Chinmoy Krishna Das’s release and a fair, transparent judicial process. Bangladesh must protect its Hindu minority and uphold equal citizenship. Religious identity must never determine whose rights matter. @UNHumanRights @USCIRF #Bangladesh
I am a Hindu. I know from personal experience what it means to live with fear and insecurity in Bangladesh. The authorities unjustly detained me for a prolonged period under anti-terrorism legislation. I spent hundreds of thousands of taka and endured an exhausting legal struggle before securing bail from the High Court. Even after obtaining bail, I have had to remain in hiding out of fear for my safety. For me, this is lived experience. In my view, the current government treats minority Hindus as third-class citizens. We should not have to plead for the protection, dignity and equal treatment that every citizen deserves. What crime has Chinmoy Krishna Das been convicted of? An accusation is not a conviction. Any allegations against him must be tested through credible evidence and a fair, transparent judicial process. Prolonged detention must not become punishment before a verdict. The Daily Star reported on 6 September 2026 that he had secured bail in two more cases, yet other proceedings continued to block his release. According to that report, he had been in custody since 25 November 2024. I do not know the exact number of cases he currently faces. My concern is that successive cases and continuing legal obstacles could keep him imprisoned even after he obtains bail. The authorities should publish a clear, up-to-date account of every case, the evidence supporting each allegation, and the grounds for his continued detention. His prolonged imprisonment sends a frightening message to minorities: if we speak up for our rights, could we face the same fate? Being Hindu is not a crime. Demanding equal rights is not terrorism. If an individual is accused of wrongdoing, produce the evidence. Do not stigmatise an entire religious community or treat peaceful advocacy as a security threat. I see his treatment as a deeply troubling sign of communal discrimination and the erosion of equal citizenship. The government must answer these concerns through transparency, accountability and justice. I appeal to international human rights organisations, Hindu organisations and public figures: scrutinise Chinmoy Krishna Das’s prolonged detention and demand answers from the Bangladesh government. Press for independent monitoring, access to legal counsel, necessary medical care and protection from mistreatment. I call for his release and a fair judicial process. I also call for an independent investigation into allegations of unjust detention and harassment, including my own experience. Bangladesh’s minorities deserve to live without fear. Human rights belong to everyone, regardless of religion or political identity. @UNHumanRights @UN_HRC @amnesty @hrw @fidh_en @omctorg @FrontLineHRD @CIVICUSalliance @ICJ_org @ISHRglobal @MinorityRights @forum_asia @IBAHRI @article19org @FortifyRights @HRF @freedomhouse @CSWadvocacy @USCIRF @ADFIntl @IrfSecretariat @RFInstitute @LantosFndn @PBI_ISEC @WILPF @HinduAmerican @CoHNAOfficial @HinduPACT @Hindus4HR @HinduACT @RSSorg @narendramodi @MEAIndia @realDonaldTrump @GiorgiaMeloni @taslimanasreen @antonioguterres @volker_turk @AgnesCallamard @pritipatel @EUCouncil @DrSJaishankar #FreeChinmoyKrishnaDas #Bangladesh #MinorityRights #ReligiousFreedom #HumanRights News report: thedailystar.net/news/crime-â€Ļ

The BNP Govt’s Home Minister, Salahuddin Ahmed, recently stated, following a meeting of the Constitution Reform Committee, that the participants of the July–August 2024 protests in #Bangladesh would receive constitutional protection and immunity for their actions during that period. This raises several significant questions, foremost among them: Why is there a perceived need to provide constitutional protection and immunity for the actions of the protesters in the first place, particularly when the BNP government has already enacted specific legislation granting them precisely such protection? The July Mass Uprising (Protection and Liability Determination) Act, passed on 8 April 2026, shields the participants from ongoing or future civil and criminal proceedings for acts committed in furtherance of their participation in the protests. In effect, this legislation makes it virtually impossible to secure legal redress for crimes committed by the protesters, including the killings of law enforcement officials and #AwamiLeague activists and supporters. It also shields them from any legal accountability for the widespread destruction and looting of public and private property, both during the protests and in the aftermath of the Awami League government’s fall. Nor was the 2026 legislation the first instance in which the protesters were granted legal immunity. Under the Interim Government led by Dr. #Yunus, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a directive in October 2024 stipulating that participants in the protests would be absolved of crimes committed between 15 July and 8 August 2024. Approximately 15 months later, this policy was given statutory force through a presidential ordinance promulgated under Article 93(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh. Against this backdrop, a fundamental question arises: Why is there a further push to enshrine such immunity in the Constitution itself when legislation already provides for it? More importantly, what justification is there for elevating a blanket immunity from legal accountability for criminal acts to the level of constitutional protection, potentially placing it beyond the reach of ordinary legislative scrutiny or reform? Constitutional protection should not become a mechanism for placing any group above the law. The demand for accountability, due process and equal protection under the law must apply to everyone, irrespective of their political affiliation or role in the events of July–August 2024. Acccountablity and immunity cannot coexist. ... @amnestysasia @PearsonElaine @ESandersFCDO @Ginitastar

US Deep State mercenaries in Bangladesh support CJP! Asif Nazrul, one of the key mercenaries of the US Deep State and Pakistani ISI, who also served as an advisor in Yunus regime, in a Facebook post states: "Modi is disoriented by the bites of cockroaches. I don't think he can last long. "Will Modi's country change if he falls? It will change a little. At least the blind anti-Muslim politics will stumble a little. The lonely Nata-Niahu in the international arena will lose one close ally. The severe discrimination in Indian society may decrease a little. "The people of this country have suffered in many ways as victims of Modi and his politics. They and their families will get some solace. Like many others, I am waiting to see Modi's fall". It may be mentioned here that, Asif Nazrul's second wife Shila Ahmed is a Political Officer at the US Embassy in Dhaka.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (@CPJAsia) has called for a prompt and transparent investigation into the October 4 assault on at least four #journalists at #Rajshahi University, urging the authorities to prosecute those responsible. According to reports, leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (@bdbnp78), allegedly attacked the campus correspondents of the Daily Star, Daily Samakal, bdnews24, and Agamir Shomoy with sticks and batons while they covered an incident outside a university residence hall. All four journalists were hospitalised. News: thedailystar.net/campus/newsâ€Ļ Despite reports of video footage clearly identifying those involved, university authorities filed a police case against several unidentified individuals on October 5, raising serious questions about their sincerity in this regard.
