As their contract negotiations with Rutgers University continue, the union representing the school’s full-time faculty has already achieved a major win: academic freedom. The details and an update on negotiations can be found here: whyy.org/articles/rutgers-fa… @whyynews #NewJersey

Merrill College students know their rights as journalists. "Cat Murphy is a master's student at the University of Maryland, credentialed as a reporter for our Capital News Service and doing the job we teach our students to do. Cat recorded openly in a public space alongside other news outlets, and that is her legal right," Dean Rafael Lorente (@DeanLorente) said. "I'm proud of how she handled herself in a difficult situation."
Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

I see people are being introduced to Rep. Andy Harris, a man who once said “I disregard and discount anything that involves the mainstream media press.” He's been hostile toward the media for as long as I can remember, dating back to when I covered MD's Eastern Shore in 2014.

Shoutout to @CNSmd reporter Cat Murphy for standing ten toes down and asking the question anyway. Also, shoutout to our colleagues who supported her. @RepAndyHarrisMD is incorrect about how two-party works in Maryland.

Glitches in NJ voter-registration software are blamed for about 750 more improper registrations that were recently discovered. The new errors were announced by Gov. Mikie Sherrill, who said new safeguards have been implemented. whyy.org/articles/voter-regi… @whyynews #NewJersey

Please note for the propagandists and the uninformed who have grand conspiracies about “the media,” if not for us, you wouldn’t have anything to base your takes on. You’re welcome.

I don’t feel like doing the math because it’s not worth trying to have a substantive conversation with a propagandist that doesn’t know how anything works. Me not adopting your narrative doesn’t mean I’m defending the governor. That’s not my job. She has her people to do that.

Sherrill said illegal voters participated in 2025. So that is at least two elections. Has the Sherrill administration released a single document? Has one state official gone on the record? The only person conducting an investigation is Jeff Van Drew. And the Sherrill administration REFUSED to send anyone to DC to testify. If you, as NJ press, spent as much time as you do defending Mikie as doing a deep dive and requesting public information…maybe we’d know that answer. Your claim that illegals voting did not affect any elections has no data to back that up because you don’t feel like doing the math is worth it. You will just take Sherrill’s word at face value and use your platform to gaslight the public. The only brick wall is yours.

Let's do the numbers... Out of roughly 6,682,699 registered voters, about 6,600 people were improperly registered to vote for a one year period between June 2023 and June 2024. That leaves roughly 6,676,699 legally registered voters, assuming they participated in 2024.

What news? What has Trump been convicted of as President of the free world? What jobs has he traded for sex? What sperm comments did he make to young women? And btw the bringing guests to events without paying? Every political or charity event I have ever thrown has had electeds walk in and never seem to have a check with them. All Mikie and the NJ Press do is scream Trump to deflect from the current situation and excuse the actual facts that we are dealing with right now- illegals on voter rolls for YEARS, sanctuary state policies that divert our tax money, and an utter lack of transparency. And for what it’s worth, it is clear as day Dale was being pushed out with a case that wouldn’t have withstood a court hearing, and the lack of outrage by black electeds is sad.

Of the roughly 6,600 people who were wrongly registered to vote, fewer than 400 people voted. Again, going off of 2024 numbers, if you remove the 400 of the 4,321,921 ballots that were cast, assuming they were not already rejected, that means 4,321,521 ballots were legally cast.

The percentage of the voters registered wrongly, again, using 2024 numbers: 0.098851243706% The percentage of assumed ballots cast from those who were wrongly registered: 0.0092551437197% This stat also assumes that the ballots were not rejected. Just adding context. -30-

.@MattFriedmanNJ with the wicked snark even back then. Remind me not to piss you off sir.
For some reason I was just reminded of this. @njdotcom no longer has comments. But they did shortly before I left for Politico, and the bosses tried to juice engagement by having reporters jump into the discussions under our articles. It went about as well as you might expect.

I will say this again for the folks in the back: no reporter should be banned for doing their job. Signed, A reporter who was once banned for doing his job.

Perhaps the most famous format change in all of radio and it happened 48 years ago tonight.
48 years ago today, WKRP in Cincinnati debuted on CBS. From Episode 1, When DJ John Caravella transformed into Dr. Johnny Fever, and WKRP became a rock and roll station.
