Hasan al Hariri, @CIJAOnline Syria Director had the honour of joining Ukrainian human rights activists to discuss different approaches to war crimes documentation and justice organised by @syrianetf, @MadaniyaNetwork and @PIJlab. Drawing on CIJA s experience in both Syria and Ukraine, Hasan called for the shift of focus to rebuilding the national institutions in Syria which will ultimately bear the responsibility for delivering accountability and transitional justice. CIJA stands ready to support the Syrian efforts to design effective transitional justice mechanisms and is in discussion with the relevant authorities about concrete assistance that CIJA can provide in the short and long term.
SETF, in partnership with @PIJLab and @MadaniyaNetwork, will host a workshop bringing together leading Syrian and Ukrainian human rights defenders, journalists, activists, and civil society leaders for a joint exchange on accountability, justice, and democratic transformation. The event will take place on Saturday, 6 December, from 14:00 to 17:00, at Madaniya Headquarters, Beit Farhi, 59 Tal Al-Hijara, Al-Ameen Street, Damascus. Simultaneous English–Arabic interpretation will be provided. If you would like to take part in this in-person event, register for the event here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

When Ukrainian-British activist Natalie Kopytko met left leader Jeremy Corbyn she had some polite questions for him. Since he was unable or unwilling to answer, she followed up by email. After months without a reply, she decided to make her email public. europe-solidaire.org/spip.ph…

The Reckoning Project’s work in documenting Russia’s atrocities is invaluable to our quest for justice and accountability. Expressed my deep gratitude to @janinedigi and @IbrahimOlabi. @TRPUkraine shared over 250 files of survivors and witnesses’ testimonies with our prosecutors. After the presentation of the book “The Scariest Days of My Life,” @GP_Ukraine’s War Crimes Department has been reviewing the information presented in the book in order to follow up on these cases. Today, we discussed expanding our partnership in data collection and analysis. Prosecutors and investigators would greatly benefit from the advanced digital tools used by the TRP team. We also highly appreciate The Reckoning Project’s efforts in the repatriation of Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia and look forward to further cooperation in establishing the mechanisms for their return. I am confident that our synergy will contribute greatly to the investigation and prosecution of #RussianWarCrimes and the restoration of justice for the survivors of this barbaric aggression.
