Hon'ble MoS (I/C), Ministry of Earth Sciences, @DrJitendraSingh, responded in the Rajya Sabha to an Unstarred Question in a written reply on INDIGENOUS WARNING SYSTEMS Stated that: - The National Centre for Seismology (NCS), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), monitors earthquakes across the country 24x7 through its National Seismological Network, comprising 174 seismological observatories. - The earthquake early warning approach detects the initial, non-damaging P-waves, enabling alerts to be issued before the arrival of stronger ground shaking, depending on the distance from the earthquake source. - The funds allocated to NCS are being used to develop an Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system in the pilot phase. - The India Meteorological Department (IMD) provides impact-based forecasts and early warnings for various meteorological hazards, including cloudbursts, to support disaster preparedness and response, particularly in Himalayan States. pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.… @narendramodi @mygovindia @PMOIndia @OfficeOfDrJS

The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) hosted a press conference on the Second Stage "Long Range Forecast of the Southwest Monsoon for 2026" under the chairmanship of Dr. M. Ravichandran (@Ravi_MoES), Secretary, @moesgoi, alongside Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department (@Indiametdept), and senior officials. MoES-IMD predicted below normal rainfall over the country as a whole during the June–September southwest monsoon season, estimated at 90% of the Long Period Average (LPA). While Northeast India is likely to receive normal rainfall, Northwest, Central, and South Peninsular India may witness below normal rainfall.
