#LaborDay is a celebration of workers. That includes the unpaid interns and students in placements whose labor keeps industries running for $0.00/hour.
💰 Your labor has value.
⏱️ Your time has value.
📢 You deserve to be paid.
✊ Join the movement.

On the eve of New York’s primary elections, shoutout to the unpaid interns currently doing the work of paid staff while those staffers are out canvassing for their bosses’ preferred candidates.
Thanks for keeping the lights on. We see you.

What most people seem to not get is that most interns currently advocating for pay won’t even be a part of the Council by the time our work is done.
This fight is NOT about what’s in our bank accounts. It’s about changing a broken system that only allows the wealthy to succeed.

I was fired because New York law doesn’t protect unpaid intern organizing, and unpaid interns are seen as a disposable, free labor source.
We’re fighting to change that and make New York City more affordable for young public servants.

You can disagree with the demands. But it's fair to ask whether a body that prides itself on advancing workers' rights should be punishing people for organizing around workplace issues.

Health care? "You're on your own."
Housing? "Nothing we can do."
Grocery prices? "You're out of luck."
$200 billion for another war? "No problem!"
Americans—Democrats, Republicans, independents—are SICK AND TIRED of endless wars.
We need to invest here at home.
"We need people to not have to work for nothing." 🗣️ AM
@JoAnneSimonBK52 sponsor of #A9379 / #S7894 speaks at @NASWNYS Capitol Action Day on the need for a Paid MSW Field Work Pilot Program. To expand NY's mental health workforce, we must end unpaid "indentured servitude." ✊#P4P

NO MORE UNPAID LABOR 🛑
#SocialWorkers are the backbone of NY’s mental health system, but 900+ hours of unpaid labor are driving students into poverty.
@Daringly_Myself from P4P-NY just took the floor at the NYS Assembly to demand change—and won a NEW sponsor! 🧵👇
#SocialWork
With a 30-40% vacancy rate in behavioral health, NY is in a crisis.
Pilar's testimony exposed the "catch-22": students skipping meals and facing homelessness just to finish their degree. We need a workforce, not #PlacementPoverty.
#NYSAssembly #MentalHealth
THE WIN: AM @JoAnneSimonBK52 announced during the hearing that she will sponsor the bill in the Assembly! ✍️
It’s time to stop making students choose between a degree and a roof over their heads.

AOC just detonated the House floor:
🔥🔥
“Eight senators are giving themselves over $1 million each while robbing Americans of food assistance and healthcare. How is this even on the floor? How can Congress enrich itself by stealing from the American people?”
This is the truth of the shutdown deal, millions lose care so senators can cash out.
Unpaid social work internships are a barrier. We're fighting for change! 🚫 Hear from @SalazarSenate, Tyree Grant, Olivia Watts, & @daringly_myself on NYS Bill S.7894 to fund MSW interns. #PaidPlacements #SocialWork #Advocacy Watch the full event! youtu.be/AMPgWz4NIJQ
