Dear fellow UK amateur choirs,
If you’d like to sign a joint letter to the BBC DG about the abolition of the @BBCSingers, please reply saying yes + the number of singers you represent. We’ll draft a letter (after tomorrow’s concert😨) & add your choir #WeAreTheBBCSingers
We are incredibly grateful to the @VWFndn for their support of our upcoming concert, which allows us to perform our high-quality and innovative programme alongside outstanding professionals, and still donate all ticket sales to the @OvergateHospice
We're delighted to welcome two outstanding soloists for our concert of Fauré, Vaughan Williams, Saint-Saëns & Boulanger this Saturday 18th March: soprano @JenAliceClark and baritone @theopbaritone. Here's a little intro to each of them...
Baritone @theopbaritone is a recent graduate of the RCM's International Opera Studio, and in the last year has worked with Grange Park Opera and Festivals Malta. In 2023 he tours with Diva Opera in their production of Rigoletto in South Africa & France theoperrybaritone.com/
Soprano @JenAliceClark's opera credits include roles with Opera North, Welsh National Opera and West Green House Opera, alongside ensemble work with the Grange Festival. Current 2023 plans include a UK tour of The Mikado with Charles Court Opera jenniferclarksoprano.com
We can't wait for our concert this Saturday! Alongside the more familiar Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams and Fauré's ever-popular Requiem, we'll also be singing two lesser-known works: two movements from Saint-Saëns' Requiem, and Lili Boulanger's Pie Jesu...(1/3)
Here's a sneak peek at both pieces. One of the Saint-Saëns movements we'll be performing is the Dies Irae (which Fauré doesn't include in his Requiem). It's full of bombast, heroism, & drama; the 'Tuba' section is originally scored for 4 trombones! (2/3) youtu.be/fDJhAtt7oBA?t=381
Fauré's much-loved Pie Jesu, meanwhile, finds a remarkable counterpart in Boulanger's rarely performed setting. It was among the last works she ever wrote, and was dictated to her sister, Nadia, the year Lili died, aged just 24. (3/3)
