💙 On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we are reminded that every person deserves the opportunity to learn, belong, and thrive.
Across the OCSB, we are committed to fostering school communities rooted in equity, where barriers are reduced, every voice is valued, and each student is supported to reach their God-given potential. Together, through compassion, advocacy, and service, we can help build a more just and hopeful future for all.

💚 Little moments. Big impact. That's the #ocsbFridayFeeling!
From building bridges and exploring 3D printing to creating ‘farmers' markets’ and bringing imaginative ideas to life, OCSB students have been putting their creativity and curiosity to work! 🏗️📚🍎
But knowledge goes beyond the classroom. This week, students learned about democracy, discovered the power of storytelling with sports journalist Julian McKenzie and gave back to their community through a Halloween food drive. 🗳️🏒🥫
And through conversations about mental health, belonging and kindness, students reminded us that sometimes the smallest gestures make the biggest difference. ❤️
As we Nourish New Beginnings, we're celebrating the little things that bring us together and the big possibilities they create.

📚 Today, we celebrate Canadian Library Workers Day and the dedicated library staff across the OCSB who help make our libraries welcoming and safe places to read, learn and discover.
Meet Jess, a Library Tech at St. Mother Teresa High School who loves getting students excited about reading and helping them find their next great book. Her own love of reading inspired her career as a Library Technician. After working in elementary school Learning Commons, Jess now works at the high school level and loves the different experiences that both settings offer.
That care for students also comes through in the space Jess has helped create. As soon as you walk into the library, it’s hard not to notice the plants. Surrounded by natural light, they bring life to the space and make the library feel warm and welcoming, even in its quieter moments. Jess cares for them all, including one that belonged to her grandmother. She’s also continuing a tradition started by the Library Tech before her, who shared that same love of plants and creativity.
In many ways, the space reflects this year’s spiritual theme, We Are Called to Nourish New Beginnings. Through caring for a space where both plants and students can grow, Jess is helping create a place where students can discover new interests, find their next great read and feel at home.
Today, we celebrate Jess and all the library workers across the OCSB who inspire a love of reading and learning every day. Thank you for all that you do! 👏❤️

💜🙏 Students, staff and special guests gathered to celebrate the blessing of a statue of Mary, the Blessed Mother, honouring the generations of faith and devotion it represents.
Generously gifted by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the statue now has a special place at Immaculata, where it will continue to inspire faith, reflection and belonging for generations to come!
A beautiful reminder that new beginnings can also honour the stories and traditions that have shaped us. ✨

🩷 Great achievements often begin in familiar places!
Before standing atop the Olympic podium, Erica Wiebe walked the halls of Sacred Heart Catholic High School, where determination, resilience, and hard work helped shape her path to Olympic gold.
This Women's History Month, we celebrate Erica's remarkable accomplishments and the example she sets for students to pursue their goals with confidence, perseverance, and courage!

The Ottawa Catholic School Board joins Catholics around the world in praying for Pope Leo XIV following the news of his lung cancer diagnosis.
We are grateful to hear that his surgery was successful, and we pray for his continued healing, strength and recovery. ❤️🙏
As a Catholic school community, we hold the Holy Father in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time. May he find comfort in his faith and in the love and support of the many people praying for him around the world.
🕊️ May God bless Pope Leo XIV and guide him on his journey to recovery.

🙏 Students from St. Matthew High School gathered at Divine Infant Parish for two special Masses celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Yvan Mathieu.
Through humour and examples students could relate to, Bishop Mathieu encouraged them to make room for God even when life gets busy, care for one another and notice the blessings in their everyday lives. With beautiful music from the St. Matthew choir, led by school chaplain Charity Corbitt, the celebrations were a meaningful opportunity to come together in faith, prayer and gratitude. 💛

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from the OCSB! 🧡
Today, we give thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives and for the people, relationships and moments that strengthen our school communities.
As we gather with family and friends, may we take time to notice the blessings around us, give thanks for what we have and remember those who may be experiencing a difficult season.
May this Thanksgiving be filled with gratitude, kindness and the joy of being together. Wishing our entire OCSB community a joyful and restful Thanksgiving! 🙏🍂

🙏 Today, we join in prayer for clergy who faithfully serve our schools, parishes, and communities.
May God continue to strengthen and guide them as they share His love, nurture faith, and inspire others to see His presence in the everyday. As the Book of Job reminds us, let us all "stop and consider the wondrous works of God." ✨

Today, we celebrate Clergy Appreciation Day and the dedicated clergy who support our students, staff and families across the #OCSB.
One of those people is Fr. Geoff Kerslake, who values the many opportunities he has to connect with students through school liturgies, classroom visits and even recess walks around the school grounds.
You might even spot him wearing a safety vest at recess, although he says he’s not quite ready to accept the walkie-talkie just yet!
For Fr. Geoff, one of the most meaningful parts of his role is seeing the connection between parish, school and home come to life. He loves how open, curious and friendly students are and says it’s especially meaningful when one tells him, “See you on Sunday, Father Geoff!”
Today, we celebrate Fr. Geoff and all the clergy in our OCSB communities. Thank you for the care, presence and support you provide to our students, staff and families! 🙏💚

Today is International Day of the Girl! 🌍💜
From our youngest learners to our graduating students, girls across the OCSB are learning, creating, leading and discovering what they’re capable of.
Across our schools, girls have opportunities to discover their strengths and build confidence in and beyond the classroom. Initiatives like Girls on the Run and the STEM for Girls Club are just two examples of the many ways girls are encouraged to learn, grow and pursue their interests.
We’re also inspired by OCSB graduates who are creating opportunities for girls beyond our community. Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award recipient Lisa Travella-Murawsky is doing just that through her work in India, helping girls and young women build confidence and thrive through sport.
Today, we celebrate the voices, talents and potential of girls. By giving them opportunities to lead, explore their interests and share their ideas, we help create a community where every girl knows she matters and has an important role in shaping the future. 💜

Today is World Mental Health Day.
There are many ways we can Be Well each day, whether it’s spending time with friends, getting outside, being active, taking a quiet moment or making time for something we enjoy.
Today, take a moment to notice the people, activities and moments that support your mental health and well-being. What helps you Be Well? 💚

🎃🍂 Pumpkin spice and everything nice… it's almost Thanksgiving weekend!
From fall-themed phonics and French storytelling to outdoor adventures, science experiments and running clubs, OCSB students have been making the most of the season.
But Thanksgiving is about more than pumpkin patches and colourful leaves. It's about gratitude, generosity and community. This week, students put those values into action by collecting food donations to support local families.
As we Nourish New Beginnings, we're celebrating the little things that bring us together and the people who make our communities so special.
Wishing all our OCSB families and staff a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend! 🦃❤️
