Happy St Crispin's Day! 🏴
A 3rd-century martyr still in the Roman Martyrology- removed from the universal calendar in 1969, but the Church never stopped calling him a saint.
English cobblers would close shop, light bonfires and feast until dawn. Then Shakespeare’s Henry V turned a shoemaker's feast into the most famous speech in English history. "Crispin Crispian"- two names that made a cobbler a soldier. Listen👇🏻
Rioters display a disordered “solidarity” lacking grounding in human dignity and a refusal to accept reasonable responsibility, revealing a lack of proper subsidiarity.👇
A completely immorally surreal scene in Lyon: France 🇫🇷
A woman begs the rioters to put out the fire they set at the entrance to the building where children are trapped because the firefighters are blocked further down the street by barricades they erected. The protester tells her, "I don't give a damn, we're young, we want rights."

England is becoming a Third World country that criminalizes speech.
Locke, Mill, Orwell, all desecrated by the current nation.
America’s the last place where free speech is still honored; for now…

This is incrwdibly naive. Unbelief doesn’t rewrite the moral law. An atheist can defend its precepts (against murder, against theft, for ordered liberty) while Christians identify God as their ultimate ground. Shared conclusions aren’t co-option; they’re recognition of an objective moral order.
Replying to @JoelWBerry
Anything James Lindsay is fighting for is not Protestant. Not Christian.
I'm not saying you cant appreciate his work, but there are many non-Christians trying to co-opt Christianity and Christian tradition for their own means.

“If it's my body, property or life, my choice makes it morally permissible.”
Start from that premise & abortion, euthanasia, commercial surrogacy & unrestricted drug use are justifiable.
That's autonomy absolutism: treating freedom of choice as sufficient for moral rightness.

There is no such thing as AI being “in control” of us, because AI doesn’t know or decide anything. But there could be such a thing as a technocratic elite which, looking at AI through an ideological lens, interprets its outputs in a certain way and demands that the rest of us submit to this interpretation. The proposal that “AI should be in control” is really the proposal that this technocratic elite should be in control, albeit some are so lost in ideological delusion that they don’t see this.

I'm sold.
I picked @RealitySalesman as a handle because it’s exactly what I try to do. I sell reality. In a world jammed with bullsh*t narratives, half-truths, and people dodging accountability with fancy stories they like to tell themselves, I try to be someone peddling the truth. It’s not always a hot seller because illusions are easier to swallow, but without it, people are just chasing shadows on a wall, mistaking feel-good ideas for solid ground.
Why salesman? Because truth doesn’t hawk itself these days. It needs people to cut through the noise, call out the Trojan Horse ideas slipping in disguised as wisdom, and to remind folks that discernment means spotting what’s almost right from what’s dead on. I push for that foundation by suspending judgment until the evidence stacks up or testing ideas before I bet the farm. Being a Reality Salesman means being honest about the facts, owning your ignorance, and building from there, not hiding in denial or performative drama.
My customers know that when you buy from me, you’re opting for clarity over comfort, and I respect that more than you know. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your continued support keeps me in business, and I am deeply grateful. 🫡
Also, you get what you pay for and it's all free, so, all sales are final. 🤣

I notice classical liberals & post-liberals see each other as enemies over liberty. One fears losing it, the other sees the damage it can cause. Both miss what classical realism offers through the hierarchy of goods. Putting liberty in its proper place is how we best preserve it.

What's the difference between reality and truth?
Reality is what is. Truth is the conformity of the intellect to reality.

What is the purpose of the Realist Guild?
To restore, strengthen & create institutions ordered towards reality, human nature, objective goods & the common good.
We're bringing together people who share those fundamental principles & want to do something practical with them.

🧵 1/21 Jesus warned that few find the way to eternal life. Some Catholic saints believed most would be damned. Most people I know are atheists. If the saints were right, what can I do to help myself, them & those of us who think we're already saved?

📜✨ **“BE NOT AFRAID” — THEY TAUGHT HIM FEAR. HE TAUGHT THE WORLD COURAGE.**
They spent half a century telling this man what he should be afraid of.
Nazis.
Communists.
A gunman.
The grave.
Then Karol Wojtyła walked onto the world stage as Pope John Paul II and told everybody else:
**“Be not afraid.”**
And with the Church celebrating **Saint John Paul II’s feast day this Thursday, October 22**, this seemed like exactly the right week to tell that story.
Before the white cassock, there was occupied Poland. Quarry labor. A clandestine seminary. A young man watching one totalitarian regime give way to another.
Then came Rome.
Then Poland, 1979.
No army. No revolution. Just a pope in white asking the Holy Spirit to descend upon his homeland—and a people beginning to remember that fear did not have the final word.
Even after bullets tore through Saint Peter’s Square, John Paul II answered violence with forgiveness.
This song is a little strange even by Peter’s Barque standards: mostly spoken alt-rock storytelling, a dusty gunslinger ballad underneath it, flashes of Polish folk/polka, and just enough funk to make the whole thing move.
Because apparently **Saint John Paul II needed a Western polka ballad.**
And yes—he absolutely did.
This one is dedicated to **Todd Sobotka**, who has helped keep John Paul II, Poland, courage, and the Church’s witness under tyranny very much on my mind.
🎶 **“Be Not Afraid”** — for Catholics, history nerds, Poles, converts, Cold War survivors, and anybody who needs to remember that every empire gets an expiration date. And Todd,
Peter’s Barque is a catechetical musical project by Justin West. He’s a catechist, not a musician. The music and art are created principally through digital means, including AI—but the words, heart, and soul are still his.
**Saint John Paul II, pray for us.**

What's true & good is grounded in reality, waiting for us to discover it.
We're free to choose what we believe & how we act.
But reality doesn't bend to our mistakes.

🚨 NEW: Inside the Neocons’ Secret Plan to Take the Republican Party Back.
A Republican organizing network backed by liberal foundation money held private meetings where participants discussed how to “retake the local party apparatus.”
A former Soros foundation grantmaker helped advise the effort.
The target was local Republican organizations. Their own report records one participant’s assessment that parties were:
“strong enough to still matter, but weak enough to be taken over.”
Participants in Kansas and Kentucky had already begun developing plans to rebuild local parties.
Johns Hopkins’ SNF Agora Institute and the R Street Institute organized the meetings: private dinners followed by full-day, off-the-record sessions. Rules prevented participants’ statements from being attributed to them individually.
Johns Hopkins named Brad Raffensperger among the project’s architects.
The funding includes:
• $1.85 MILLION from Hewlett for the Civic Right project.
• $500,000 from Carnegie for the Conservative Agenda for Democracy program.
These foundations’ support for conservative organizing fits a broader shift by liberal donors toward funding groups on the right.
The Soros connection: adviser Mark de la Iglesia previously awarded grants at George Soros’s Open Society Foundations. He also served in the Obama administration. Freedom House confirms his advisory role in this specific initiative.
By 2026, organizers reported Signal networks connecting statewide election officials and staff. Their next steps included state-by-state strategies and recruiting and preparing future candidates and public officials.
The same report explains that participants feared publicly confronting the administration could cost them seats and credibility.
Its wording:
“The challenge is to take effective action while not drawing unwanted attention.”

Friends, there is a common view of God as the supreme being among many beings—as the biggest and greatest of all beings.
But this is a false understanding of God, who is, as Aquinas says, “ipsum esse subsistens”—the sheer act of “to be” itself. In other words, he is the creative ground from which all finite reality comes. God is not a being in the world like the ancient mythological gods and goddesses but the creative source of all that is.
