Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of âmicrodramas,â which are kind of like soap operas except theyâre short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magazâŠ

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

The lesbian bar story is useful because nearly every time you hear some innuendo about a successful Dsa chapter being a âbad coalition partnerâ or ânot listening to the communityâ itâs because they wouldnât play ball with a clique of entitled narcissists like the one in the story

The thing abt Steinem is yes, she was a liberal feminist, but she was part of a current of women's liberation that was genuinely transforming American life for the better, whereas now there is no feminist movement at all. I understand both the nostalgia and the criticism.

i don't like how we're calling every passion, every flight of fancy, every act of joie de vivre 'autism' now

I am eternally frustrated by the idea that not seeing yourself reflected in a film means it holds nothing of value for you. It's a deeply incurious, self-absorbed way to engage with art.

There were a lot of terrible things that got us into this egregious place with our current level of textile waste, but one was absolutely people framing personal style as a human right, and treating shopping as an act of liberation and buying fewer clothes as oppression.

you donât ever have to âget overâ clubbing or any type of social dance. humans of all ages, generations and maturity have enjoyed and danced to music together in communal spaces for over 40 thousand years. itâs one of the oldest age-inclusive forms of shared human pleasure.

replies INSANE unfortunately you still have to take risks even if you are sad/scared/broke/ugly/a woman. even if you have already been hurt very badly. arguably more so in that case. did anybody watch Sorry Baby
âI Want Your Sexâ director Gregg Araki says heâs seen the reports of Gen Z having less sex -- and he thinks younger people will âregretâ not taking chances and ârisking getting hurtâ:
âIâm in my 60s now. Youâre gonna turn around and youâre going to be 40, 50 like that. Will you regret not taking a chance, venturing out of your house, risking getting hurt, getting confused, getting your heart broken? Go out on a bad date, have that bad relationship, have that bad girlfriend. Be in love with the wrong person. Thatâs fucking life! Thatâs growing up! Thatâs how you learn about yourself.â

I'm only pro-dress code in spaces that aren't compulsory to be in, but I do think the way you dress for certain environments can communicate the level of respect you have for said environment and the people in it. It shouldn't be enforced, but it should be part of the evaluation.

âïž A lenticular spoof ad at a bus stop near Meta's London headquarters flips TV personality Kylie Jenner's smart glasses campaign into a skeletal surveillance warning depending on where you stand.
The design borrows from They Live, the 1988 film where special sunglasses expose the manipulation hidden inside advertising.
The underlying concern is real, since the latest Ray-Ban Meta generation records up to three minutes of continuous video, has stealth mods and researchers have demonstrated again and again that footage can be matched to names and addresses using facial recognition.

This is disgustingly untrue about 1m1v chapter metro dc DSA, where our 1m1v process greatly increases the ability of people to engage. Our Janeese endorsement ballot had member statements from 73 people. There is no world where we can do that in a meeting sorry!
