Is AI a bubble? I asked Barry @ritholtz. His answer starts with a question of his own, and he makes the case that investors should be watching the “Magnificent 493.” (He also shares the startup pitch he called “the single dumbest idea” he’d ever heard.) youtube.com/watch?v=MO2GX0Hw…

$TSM TSMC CEO sees no AI demand slowdown and expects growth above its previous ~55% CAGR forecast. "all I can say right now is the demand is extremely robust. We did not see any sign of slowdown. Whether it is a high 50 CAGR, it does not matter. It probably will be higher."

Neil Young says Tom Cruise's "Digger" is "the best film I have ever seen." "None of the reviews I have read describe this film adequately, in my opinion," Young wrote. "They seem to miss the overall effect and most of them are negative. This film lives in a world of art. It is its own best review. Don't read any other reviews and forget this one before you see 'Digger.' It cannot be seen as a Tom Cruise film - that would be misleading. I would describe it as a film of our times... I do not view this film as a commercial venture. Rather it is an artful film of our times. The things that are said in 'Digger' are a direct reflection of today's political and social world. The film is so full of artful expression and radical change ups, that it may be too much to take in for those expecting a commercial film like we are used to today." wp.me/pc8uak-1lHXy0

Anthropic just reported some absolutely RIDICULOUS numbers! According to the Financial Times, Anthropic generated $16.8 BILLION in revenue in Q3, up 46% from $11.5 billion in Q2 and that's nearly $5.3 billion in additional quarterly revenue in just THREE months. Anthropic also told investors it was profitable on an adjusted basis AND cash flow positive during the quarter. This is a pretty big deal because one of the biggest concerns surrounding AI companies has been whether they can actually turn this massive demand into a sustainable business, especially when they're spending billions of dollars training models and running inference. And this is where things get even more interesting. Anthropic is planning to spend MORE THAN $500 BILLION on computing and AI infrastructure over the next decade. Think about that for a second. That's an average of more than $50 billion annually, although the actual spending will likely vary significantly from year to year. All of that money has to go somewhere. We're talking about GPUs, memory, networking equipment, optical components, data centers, power infrastructure, and everything else required to support increasingly powerful AI models. This is exactly why I continue to be so bullish on the broader AI infrastructure trade.

I went to see Digger knowing nothing about it except it got terrible reviews. Only went because my wife wanted to see « Emma D’Arcy » in it. We may have forgotten what is the the soul of cinema. It took me 15 minutes to be convinced I hated it. And then everything shifts. Like a fabulous allegory of the power of «narrative », a concept the movie spends an hour and half torturing in a delicious manner. Rarely a movie took me through so many different emotions, swinging like a ball in a flipper. It’s not easy to watch. It’s demanding, and that is what is formidable about it. Tom Cruise delivers an astounding performance. The best I’ve ever seen from him. One scene in particular puts him at the firmament of acting and among the greatest to do ever do it. Go watch Digger. Form your own opinion. And even if you don’t like it, you can still say that at least, you’ve seen 2hrs of true inventive CINEMA.

Coffee pods generate roughly 56 billion units of single-use waste a year worldwide. Stacked end to end, they'd circle the planet multiple times. Almost none of it gets recycled. Each pod is a mix of plastic or aluminum, a foil lid, a paper filter, and wet grounds, all jammed together. Recycling facilities aren't built to pull that apart, so the vast majority go straight to landfill regardless of what the box claims. The compostable ones aren't a magic fix either. Most need an industrial facility running at sustained heat for weeks. Your backyard pile won't touch them, and most cities can't take them. Compostable plastic will still behave like regular plastic in most environments. A French press produces zero. A drip maker with a reusable filter produces zero. A pour-over cone produces zero. All three are cheaper per cup than pods by a wide margin, and every coffee person will tell you they taste better. If you already own the machine, at least switch to a refillable pod. They cost about ten bucks and last for years.

It’s interesting how everyone is long AI again. I think one of the biggest differences between people who think the AI trade is dead and people like me who believe AI demand could be 100x higher over the next few years is how they actually use AI. A lot of people “use AI” by opening ChatGPT or Claude, asking a few questions, generating an email, making an image, or having it write a post or an article. That’s not really using AI. I’m talking about having AI analyze documents, run experiments, automate repetitive work, build agents that actually execute tasks, and increasingly handle entire workflows from start to finish. I literally fired my accountant. My AI agent does a large part of his job now. I max out my Claude and Codex usage every month, and that’s just my personal usage. And we’re still extremely early. Entire industries will be transformed. New use cases will emerge that we haven't even thought of yet. The amount of work we can delegate to AI is going to increase dramatically as models become more capable and agents become more reliable. So before someone tells you they know where AI demand is going, that we’re going to massively overbuild infrastructure, or that AI usage has peaked, ask them one simple question: How do you actually use AI? Because there’s a massive difference between occasionally chatting with GPT and having AI become an integral part of how you work and live.

BREAKING: The US government is now running a primary budget deficit of -3.59% of GDP, the largest among major advanced economies. The primary budget deficit EXCLUDES the $1.1+ trillion in interest payments on existing government debt. This is followed by the UK at -3.51% of the country’s GDP. Belgium, France, Austria, and the Euro Area run primary budget deficits of -2.14%, -1.97%, -1.66%, and -1.40%, respectively. In other words, even excluding the cost of servicing existing debt, which is the 2nd-largest US government expenditure, even larger than defense spending, the US deficit is the biggest relative to GDP among all major advanced economies. US deficit spending is out of control.
