ALT The UCSF Hypoxia Research Laboratory is a leading center for the study of the effects of hypoxia on humans. A major current activity of the laboratory is the evaluation of the accuracy of pulse oximetry. The Hypoxia Lab has a continuing interest in pulse oximeter development and provide accuracy testing of pulse oximeters and related devices for industry. The lab also launched the OpenOximetry.org, which was created to improve the safety and precision of pulse oximeters in all populations as these devices have been found to be less accurate in people with darker skin tone. They hope to continue to invite and hold space for diverse voices to work in partnership to tackle these issues. Hypoxia Lab is a completely independent university-based testing facility with no ties to pulse oximeter manufacturers.
