EXCLUSIVE: As the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage takes place this week, Bishop Fernando Rifan sits down with me and tells me his successor and any bishop consecrated for Campos to govern according to the old rite, depends entirely on Pope Leo.
In an exclusive interview with me for @RealAdVaticanum , the Apostolic Administrator of the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney looks back on the 2002 reconciliation of Campos and the decree Animarum bonum. Twenty-four years on, he calls the return to Rome “truly providential.”
On what Rome should do next with the traditional Mass, His Excellency says the best thing is to pray, and that the polarization in the liturgy must be overcome if there is to be “a genuine liturgical peace.”
On the Society of Saint Pius X, he is blunt. Of the irregular path taken in 1981 and 1988, he says, “To err is human; to correct oneself and to forgive is Christian; to persevere in error is diabolical.”

Jim Vogel is a good man with a heart for Christ.
Happy to be in Pitt to “smoke the peace pipe” with my good friend Mr. Jim Vogel, spokesman of the @sspxen.
It’s critically important that every Christian, whatever you think, treat our brothers and sisters of the SSPX with the utmost Christian charity and listen to the SSPX case.

PAPAL IN-FLIGHT PRESSER: Pope Leo defended the many speeches he gave regarding the sanctity of life in France this wknd.
His addresses were in juxtaposition with recently enacted anti-life legislation.
“When I went to France, I went primarily to preach the Gospel, to preach the Good News, to reaffirm what Jesus Christ Himself says when He says I am the way, the truth, and the life, so to speak the truth that Jesus offers us.
“The defence of life is something that as you all know the Church teaches, believes very deeply.
“And so, on the one hand obviously knowing that in France the law was recently approved –– in other countries in Europe as well as other parts of the world there is a lot of debating going on about the questions of end-of-life issues –– but being in a place especially like Lourdes where people are searching for something much deeper and understanding that their lives, even in the midst of sickness or disability or pain of different kinds, that their life has meaning.
“The Church, because of Jesus Himself, wants to be close to those people and to affirm the values that life itself I think holds for all of us.
“I would say, if that's politics, I did that, but it was not to get involved in French politics. It was to teach what the Church really believes.”

A traditional Latin Mass was celebrated at St Michael's altar in the Vatican for the feast today, as is the annual custom
It is the only reliable day in the year when Catholics can attend Mass at this altar – normally the space around it is used for just storing chairs

Pope Leo XIV to European leaders in Metz:
"We cannot speak of Europe, then, without mentioning Christianity. Robert Schuman understood this when he wrote: “Christianity taught the equality of all people by nature, as children of the same God, redeemed by the same Christ, without distinction of race, color, class or profession. It taught the dignity of work and the duty of all to undertake it. It recognized the primacy of those inner values which alone ennoble the human person. The universal law of love and charity made every person our neighbor, and it is on this that social relations in the Christian world have since been founded.”
Another founding father of modern Europe was Alcide De Gasperi, who expressed the same idea, emphasizing that the “common European heritage” is “that shared moral outlook which exalts the human person and his or her responsibility, with its spirit of evangelical fraternity, its respect for the law inherited from the ancients, its love of beauty refined over the centuries, and its commitment to truth and justice sharpened by a thousand years of experience.”"

Pope Leo to French bishops today:
“There is no better way to come to Jesus than through Mary. Everything about her leads us to her Son.
…
“To renew hope & give fresh impetus to the Church’s mission in France, which I earnestly desire, there is only one 'roadmap,' which is always the same: to make Jesus Christ known and loved, authentically, passionately, again and again.”

“We, as a Church, cannot declare war on those who devoutly attend Mass simply because they prefer one form over another; this is a shortsighted and entirely ideological stance and therefore, neither pastoral nor Christian,” Cardinal Robert Sarah said.
