📈 The Worst of the Pandemic Is Decades Away SARS-CoV-2 is not just a respiratory virus that occasionally causes Long Covid. It's a systemic, multi-organ pathogen whose damage outlives the acute infection - and because different organs fail on different timetables, the population-wide effects won't plateau all at once. They'll arrive in waves, spread over decades. 🧵

The problem isn't that humanities degrees don't lead to jobs. It's that we've built a world with no room for literature, art, or philosophy, anything that expresses the human soul.

At some point you'd think these witless poltroons would twig that they themselves can stop this insane rush to embrace dystopia. Poor quality, shallow industry leaders. The death of corporate social responsibility is one of the disasters of our age. theguardian.com/technology/2…

There’s good reason for this @Tim_Roca. AE in Macclesfield is a grim place. My 85 year old mum was in there for 11 hrs a couple of weeks ago. Staff are great, system is not fit for purpose. #fixTheNHS
It's becoming increasingly difficult to convince seriously unwell patients to attend AE.

A study in Scientific Reports scanned the hearts of people two years after COVID. The title says long COVID population, but most participants had no symptoms. This is a study of COVID survivors, mostly symptom free. And 39% of them had a blood-flow defect on heart imaging🧵

Repeat covid infections have left people's physical defences against respiratory illness totally shot. But also our *societal* defences are also shot. No instincts left to protect ourselves or each other. Just a desperate thirst for comforting lies and ignorance and denial.

Being covid aware isn’t anti-social, but you know what is? Spreading disease to your community bc you keep going to work & everywhere else sick/maskless. If you didn’t do this, we wouldn’t have to be as “extreme” in our😷! What’s not clicking? Do you not hear yourselves coughing?

Grim.
What once was the peak, is now just the beginning. Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history — we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling. We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight. We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance. I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.

This is the commodification of culture, sport & the arts by people who can never understand the value of any of these. We’re loosing the very things that make us human to sovereign wealth finds & private equity. The poor will be denied access. An unimaginable societal disaster.
The combined Warner Bros/Paramount company will be called Skydance. Warner Bros and Paramount will serve as brands under the larger company.

Care to answer this @Tim_Roca? Pricing people out of vaccinations is not only a cruel, discriminatory policy, it’s profoundly stupid. Poor people are expendable it seems, a consensus of opinion the bridges the political divide. No difference between parties in this outrage.
I don’t get it, I just don’t. Why do we vaccinate widely against ‘flu, yet almost ignore covid. The eligibility list is ever smaller and people have to pay £100 to get a private vax in the uk. I would like to know why this is.

Once again @BBCr4today, @JustinOnWeb & his guests talking about paying with facial recognition software fail to recognise the world beyond their bubble of privilege. Old people really, really struggle with this tech & they pay the price in fines and exclusion. A huge problem #no

Astonishing polling. When asked if creators should be compensated when AI firms use their copyrighted works, voters support payments to creators by 80-8. politico.com/f/?id=000001a0-…

“The director’s task is to recreate life, its movement, its contradictions, its dynamic and conflicts. It is his duty to reveal every iota of the truth he has seen, even if not everyone finds that truth acceptable. Of course an artist can lose his way, but even his mistakes are interesting provided they are sincere. For they represent the reality of his inner life, of the peregrinations and struggle into which the external world has thrown him.” — Andrei Tarkovsky
