Canada's last racially segregated school closed in 1983.
There are people reading this who were in secondary school when it happened.
Canada legally permitted separate schools for Black children. Nova Scotia and Ontario both had statutes allowing it — Ontario's from 1850, Nova Scotia's from 1865 — and both kept them on the books for well over a century.
Ontario's last segregated school closed in 1965.
Nova Scotia's held on until 1983, in a Black community called Lincolnville.
The pattern is identical to the American one and almost nobody outside Canada knows it exists: Black communities established by Loyalists and refugees from American slavery, given the worst land, denied services, and then denied schools — or given a one-room building with secondhand books and no heat and told it was theirs.
Ismael Ayala-Uribe, 39, a former DACA recipient, died in ICE's Adelanto facility in California from complications of an abscess. Staff ignored requests to check on him and no provider examined him. ICE's own review found his care "deviated beyond safe limits." DHS called detention care "the best healthcare" many detainees have ever received.

I strongly condemn the terrorist attacks against Israel. Millions of Iranians express their solidarity with the victims and their families. We the people of Iran know very well that, who is behind this assault.
Just a few weeks ago, the Hamas leadership visited Ali Khamenei the supreme leader of Islamic Republic in Tehran where Khamenei made a direct threats of destruction against Israel, stating that “Israel is dying”.
Today, the world is witnessing that Hamas attacked Israel. The Islamic Republic is doing what they have exactly promised. Terrorism is Iran’s regime’s only solution. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards funds Hamas and Hezbollah to attack Israel, and at the same time IRGC is sending drones to Putin to kill Ukrainians. However the EU always hesitate to support the demands of millions of Iranians in order to put IRGC on the terror list.
Terrorists are united. The time has come for democratic countries to be united and take stronger actions against these warmongers alliance.
Now it is essential for the EU to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization and stop the Iranian regime to threaten those seeking normalization with Israel.

Palestinians who oppose Hamas's terrorism are too often unwelcome in the pro-Palestine movement. That is the unfortunate reality.
It doesn't matter how outspoken you are about Israeli crimes against Palestinians, or even that you are Palestinian yourself. You can still be excluded, doxxed, and harassed simply for speaking out against Hamas.
The leaders of the pro-Palestine movement in the West have completely adopted Hamas's narrative. Question it, and you're out. Today, as some celebrate October 7, they'll call you a traitor for saying what should be obvious: murdering and kidnapping civilians is terrorism and a crime against humanity. It won't matter what else you've said or how long you've fought for Palestinian rights.

USPS is putting almost 1,000 armed private guards in mail plants right as ballots start moving. The company is Prosegur, and it’s already been accused of human-rights abuses overseas. They say it’s just security. Postal workers say it feels like intimidation. The timing is hard to brush off.

Sixty-three years ago today, hundreds of Black residents in Selma, Alabama, lined up to register to vote on Freedom Day. They faced intimidation and deliberate delays. Supporters who tried to bring them food and water were beaten by law enforcement.
