I have been MIA due to factors outside my control, but this is still the best advisor community I’ve found.
Does anyone have thoughts on the CIMA designation?
Specifically looking at any real life value, thoughts on content, and advice in choosing a class type. TIA
Wrapped up year 4 of coaching
About half of the team has been with us since kindergarten
Really rewarding seeing the growth in the little guys we had kids sell out and chase shots, plenty of scrappy ground ball plays and lots of good teammates
Big adult purchase this week was adding some more life insurance outside of what the company offered
Texted my brother he's the contingent, if my wife and I both go down he gets 500k
He texted me back a hitman cost a lot less than that...
This will come off as very self-aggrandizing and that's ok, but I wanted to share regardless
This New Year has been tough; I didn't set the phone or laptop down hardly over the holidays and thus am missing out on all the recharged back to it energy that many seem to have
Yesterday we found out that someone who works with a client of ours grossly over promised and underdelivered and now myself and my team are paying the price for an unrelated third parties' mistake
Add to that someone close to me found out some horrible family news and I am working to support them and pick up any inevitable slack
All sounds at least a bit stressful? I wasn't in a great mood yesterday
But my wife was in the office and was also stressed with her work stuff
I found myself squeezing in 5 minutes between meetings/tasks to clean the house, do the sheets, and prep her favorite dinner.
That night when she got home it was to a clean house and homemade carbonara, she was beaming
Little stuff sure, but when I was stressed and irritated, I found myself wanting to do things for my wife and being productive, so if I was frustrated/overwhelmed at least I'd be the only one.
I don't have another take away other than I feel exceptionally rich in all the ways that matter.
If the investing, tax, and estate optimization is in service of those larger goals then great. I hope I can help everyone I work with feel the same sense of contentment I did at the end of the day
Likely my last heavy squat day of 2025
Top single at 395 which is about 2.2x bodyweight
This was only really meaningful because I also ran 395 miles this year
No desire to run 5 tmrw and try for another heavy single so content here
I think the goal for 26 will be 450/450, my wife is running Boston/Chicago/Never summer and I want to pace all of those if possible
It's already started at my little gym
New Years resolutioners are showing up and taking up space, wandering aimlessly
Good news is they'll be gone in a few weeks
But I hope not
It's annoying to wait in lines or adjust my flow at the gym, but a lot of these people are newer to exercise, or just getting back into it
Something I am being more cognizant of is trying to be the reason that someone stays and keeps coming back to the gym this year instead of just waiting for resolutioners to crash out
2025 was my first real year of feeling like I started to figure out content
Between the client and professional relationships made here I feel extremely lucky to be a part of a community with some real stars
On to the next
I keep coming back to Kyla's Substack because she's someone who for lack of a better term "gets it"
Her ability to articulate what a lot of younger investors/market participants are experiencing and feeling is second to none
Especially daunting is the financialization of differences of opinion as evidenced by this very site and those downstream effects...
Turns out the secret to a successful EOY was just a double shot poured over a Diet Coke + a morning run and afternoon weights

Devin gets into the weeds (in a good way) on a topic that most don't consider

When I first started working, I was admittedly a little self-conscious of how few emails I received
I thought a constantly pinging inbox was a sign of high productivity and being great at your job...
I cleaned my inbox last night and have 72 emails as of 8:15 this morning....

Meet Twitter friends IRL.
Devin (@NxtGenPlanning) posted a banger financial thread a while back. It caught my eye. Turned into DMs, text, and in-person conversation today.
Anyone else in Denver I should know?
My wife and I had our EOY financial conversation this weekend
We sat down with laptops at a coffee shop and spent two hours talking through our budget, cashflow, goals on the horizon and saving for a house
These conversations are as unique as your relationship, but we've found that open honest conversations, bringing up worries or stressors, and aiming high works for us
We rebalanced her 401k, emptied a HYSA and invested that amount now that interest rates have fallen, built a savings plan for the downpayment on a home, planned to fund our honeymoon and reviewed total Christmas spending
We both walked away from that conversation with clear heads and shared goals. Finding a true partner in life is the closest thing you'll find to a "hack" or wealth building shortcut
Building wealth and enjoying the process with my best friend makes me feel incredibly rich
