NASCAR just pulled the plug on the Chicago street race for 2027. The state offered $5 million, they wanted $15 million, and the deal collapsed. They’re sending it back to Joliet. An event that generated over $100 million in economic impact just walked over a $10 million gap. Signs of sad times : Maple Grove Raceway opened in 1962. It was shuttered today, victim of the IHRA meltdown. Racer magazine started 34 years ago and became a great resource. A staffer posts it is ceasing operations. Surfing the web does very little to keep racing alive and thriving. Come to events, buy or subscribe to the few remaining print publications, let vendors know you're supporting racing with your purchases. Support the Sport... or watch it wither.
