Yes, El-Sayed signed a letter in Arabic in 2012 calling on the new Muslim brotherhood government in Egypt to crack down on dissenters. It’s so outrageous that people think that it must be made up right-wing propaganda, but it’s real. 1/

1. His tone. He's snarky and angry and lacking in grace. He's an easily ruffled pit bull of a man. He's not a man in full. He's not a man with much ego strength. He's weak, and his tone -- the petulance, the meanness -- is unbecoming of a United States senator, and in times past candidates would have been embarrassed to address a potential constituent this way. 2. His dishonesty. Tommy, who raises a good question but does a poor job on the follow up, didn't ask this question because El-Sayed is Muslim. He asked this question because El-Sayed has family, starting with his mother, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed wants to turn this into race, and that should make voters wary. Race is the province of the stupid and the guilty and the politically unimaginative. It is what you resort to when you have no cards left to play.
This video is proving to be quite the political Rorschach test.

“Putting on your big boy pants” doesn’t mean taking the easy way out, following the herd, and voting for a guy who excuses a terrorist attack on children because the terrorist had hurt feelings. It means voting against extremists—even when they’re in your own party. I am so f*%*ing proud of Lon Johnson, former Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party!👏
This is an insane thing to do. Alito will retire soon and the MI race could determine control of the Senate. If Republicans have control, Trump will replace Alito with a young conservative, locking up the seat for decades. Put on your big boy pants and quit this bullshit.

This is all downstream from mainstream Democrats not willing to confront the “genocide” lie from within their own ranks. It is not too late to confront it now. But it must be now.
I see that many democrats love to give this answer “I can relate to Israelis pain re Oct 7, but I don’t support Netanyahu’s war in Gaza”, and I think it’s the easy one, and it’s just false and is not setting the record straight. The war against Hamas in Gaza as a response to Oct 7 is not Netanyahu’s war. It is Israel’s war, and it’s a just, legitimate one which was supported by almost all Israelis. So many of the lies about this war (the genocide lie, the starvation lie, the collective punishment lie) were proven to be false, and instead of actually corrective the false narrative, many democrats are terrified of their constituents that believe these lies and instead of correcting it they go with the flow.

HOLD THE PRESS: NBC holds Abdul El-Sayed’s feet to the fire on his family’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. He CLEARLY panicked and lashed out at the reporter. NBC: “When people ask you a question, they do expect the truth.” EL-SAYED (flustered): “Are you insinuating that somehow I was lying?!” This is so good. He’s panicking and his lies are catching up to him. A rare act of journalism from NBC News.

America is ultimately a centrist and deeply patriotic nation. The vast majority of us do not want to be represented by people who celebrated on September 11, January 6, or October 7.

I am a lifelong Democrat. I served President Clinton on the National Security Council, worked for Madeleine Albright at the State Department, and served as deputy staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee when Joe Biden was chairman. I remain a Democrat because I believe in an America where every person and every community is respected and where we all have the greatest possible opportunities to realize our potential. It is precisely because I believe so deeply in these principles that I feel a moral obligation to unequivocally condemn the anti-American bigots operating within our party who promote hatred and division, incite hostility, foster intercommunal conflict, and denigrate our nation and its values. These include Abdul El-Sayed, Zohran Mamdani, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and many of the members and leaders of the Democratic Socialists of America, who are seeking to transform our party into a vehicle for their radical political agenda. Some Democratic leaders believe we should remain quiet because defeating Trump and regaining control of Congress are more important than our internal divisions. I completely understand this logic. Trump is running roughshod over our democracy and laying the groundwork for a potential soft coup in November. His administration's corruption, lawlessness, and attacks on our democratic institutions represent an extraordinary threat to our republic. All Americans must fight back against these abuses with everything we have. But as a Democrat and as an American, I reject the implicit claim that we must embrace anti-American bigots and dangerous radicals to defend our democracy and build our best possible future. If we become the party that stands by radicals who excuse or glorify the September 11 or October 7 terrorists, what moral authority will we have to challenge the extremism of others? If we remain quiet when political activists call for the destruction of Western democratic institutions, reject fundamental constitutional protections, or encourage hatred and violence against their fellow Americans, how can we possibly ask the American people to trust us? Just as we Democrats have rightly demanded that Republicans stand against the worst abuses of the Trump administration, we must stand against the dangerous radicals operating in our own party. Our principles must mean more to us than our immediate political interests. I believe the vast majority of Americans are decent people who love our country, respect their fellow citizens, and want us all to live together in peace. The time has come for these common-sense Americans to reject the radical extremes on both sides of the political spectrum and unite around a positive vision of our shared future. I remain a proud Democrat because I believe our party can help lead this national renewal. But if the Democratic Party stops standing for democratic values, it will no longer deserve my support or that of most other patriotic Americans. We Democrats cannot save American democracy by abandoning our principles. We must defend those principles with the same courage and conviction that we demand of our political opponents. Our country deserves that kind of leadership, and our party has an historic opportunity to provide it if we put forward a positive vision for America and do not cave to the dangerous radicals in our midst. Ro, I ran for Congress in Missouri and served on President Clinton’s National Security Council. Now that we’ve addressed your résumé requirement, let’s address the substance. Far too many young Americans are being pushed toward extremism by irresponsible influencers and social media algorithms that reward outrage. Leaders like you and Abdul El-Sayed should be challenging that radicalization. Instead, you’ve helped fan the flames of intolerance and division while lending credibility to figures like Hasan Piker and his anti-American rhetoric. Young people deserve leaders who help them understand a complicated world, reject anti-Westernism and antisemitism, and bring people together. Chanting “globalize the intifada” deserves scrutiny and unequivocal condemn, not political cover. I remember you as a moderate Democrat committed to practical solutions before your overnight conversion into social media progressive firebrand. I hope you’ll return to those roots. America needs common-sense, patriotic leaders who bring us together. Your and your compatriots are driving us dangerously further apart.

The Democratic Party has declared a financial and sanctions war on the entire state of Israel. Do not mistakenly believe that this is limited to “settlements” — it’s meant to wreck the Israeli economy until Israelis submit to an Hamas-controlled Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. I've discussed this with him over and over again. He votes with us something like 93% of the time, and I'm glad he's a member of our caucus. We have a diverse caucus.”

Aside from his defense of an antisemitic terrorist attack on a Jewish daycare for toddlers in Michigan, his explicit socialism, his official embrace of Hasan Piker ("American deserved 9/11"), his own whataboutism in response to 9/11, his campaign staffers charged with terrorism for attacking American Jews in Ann Arbor, his explicit attack on July 4th Independence Day celebrations, his creepy question to a news reporter about whether he's circumcised, his attempt to appear "more secular" in trying to hide in his campaign videos his bookshelf filled with Islamic texts with a book by Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, what's not to like about Abdul El-Sayed as a Senator?

September 11, 2001 has been a very rough and busy day, so by popular request I’m making a single thread with the day’s highlights: 1. 8:46 AM: the world was shocked by a surprise crash at the World Trade Center, initially perceived to be a small plane but soon discovered to be a deliberate jet collision.
This is just coming in: there appears to be a major fire on the upper floors of one of the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Reports claim that a small plane, either a Cessna or a private jet, accidentally flew into the tower around the 80th floor, due to either an air traffic control communications error or a malfunction on the aircraft. The dozens of victims are in our thoughts. We will continue to monitor rescue and repair surrounding this alarming accident.

Since October 7th, Jewish students on too many campuses have been harassed, intimidated, and made to feel like strangers in their own school. That's why @RepStefanik and I are teaming up to launch the Combating Antisemitism on College Campuses Caucus to hold universities accountable, uplift the schools getting it right, like @VanderbiltU, and make sure every Jewish student can have a college experience without fear of discrimination or violence.

🇺🇸 The Boatlift That Was Bigger Than Dunkirk At 10:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001, a Coast Guard lieutenant named Mike Day keyed a radio in New York Harbor and said the only sentence that mattered. “All available boats. This is the United States Coast Guard. Anyone wanting to help with the evacuation of Lower Manhattan, report to Governors Island.” The boats were already coming. The bridges were closed. The tunnels were closed. The subways were dead. South of the towers, hundreds of thousands of people had nowhere left to walk. Some jumped into the Hudson. Some stood on seawalls that were never meant to be docks and waited for anything that floated. Dunkirk took nine days to pull 338,226 Allied soldiers off a beach in 1940. On 9/11, roughly 800 mariners on about 150 vessels moved as many as 500,000 civilians off Manhattan in about nine hours. Ferries. Tugs. Dinner boats. Pilot boats. Yachts. A retired fireboat. Rubber dinghies that held two people. The largest water evacuation in history. NY Waterway did not wait for the official call. After the second plane hit, the whole fleet moved. Captain Rick Thornton nosed his ferry against a seawall that was not a slip and started taking people off. Some of them he pulled out of the river. His company alone carried about 158,000 people to Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Brooklyn, and Queens. On a normal Tuesday they carried 34,000. The Staten Island Ferry moved more than 50,000 people and came back the other way with water, bandages, and men who still had work to do in the dust. The old fireboat John J. Harvey, already retired, tied up near the Museum of Jewish Heritage, took civilians off the seawall, then pumped water when the hydrants downtown died. Lt. Day later admitted what the day required. “I broke more rules that day than probably I’ve enforced in my whole Coast Guard career.” In raw numbers it was bigger than Dunkirk. No boat went down. By nightfall the southern tip of Manhattan had been emptied by people who were not on anyone’s list of heroes when the morning started. They were tug captains. Ferry deckhands. Pilots. A lieutenant with a microphone. Ordinary boats answering one sentence. All available boats.
