I found this unreported story where JD Vance, then named James Hamel, repeatedly praises the GI Bill: “There are no law school scholarships,” Hamel said. “The truth is, if it was not for the Yellow Ribbon Program I would not be going to law school.” cherrypoint.marines.mil/News…

He goes on: “This program is really one of the great things a Marine gets out of service to their country,” Hamel added. “Everybody needs to know because everybody can benefit from the program.”

To be clear, this is 100% Vance, who got out the marines and then graduated from OSU in 2009 and went to Yale Law. He was born James Donald Bowman, then changed his name to James Hamel in high school, then JD Hamel at Yale, and finally JD Vance when he was married.

I’ll be curious to what #Michelin thinks of the art of BBQ.
Like, five years ago I would've been so excited about this, but @Nicholasgill's reporting (& the payments Sarah nods at in her story) has put me way off. newworlder.substack.com/p/th…

Here's a new paper about regenerative ag. Everyone's in favor, especially as a climate fix! But nobody knows what it is. Some definitions use processes (eg no-till), others use outcomes (eg biodiversity). What should we use? I think it's crystal clear. frontiersin.org/journals/sus…

@Nicholasgill while your article praises El Salvador as a top 2024 destination, it's vital to acknowledge that it's not safe for everyone 🏳️‍🌈. As a proud Salvadoran, I'm concerned.

I recently hiked deep into the Amazon rainforest to understand what happens when high-speed internet arrives to a remote Indigenous tribe. The story was a dark reminder of the ills of the internet — but in a completely different way than I could have imagined.

A technique called clapping, just as the roti is pulled off the tawah, releases air pockets within the flatbread, creating additional layers within. It makes the roti fluffier and flakier. open.substack.com/pub/newwor…

The most screwed up thing about magazines is that the National Enquirer can afford to spend thousands to buy trashy stories while most others can’t afford to pay $1 a word to cover climate change.

There’s a ton of waste in the chocolate making process. Loads of it. The rest of the fruit other than the beans does have many more uses and while the current value chain makes it difficult to take full advantage of them, it has to start somewhere: open.substack.com/pub/newwor…
