April 2, 1978, exactly 43 years ago, the unexplained Bell Island Boom rocked the Bell Island community. Rumours of lightening and aliens circulated for years, until two years ago when a similar boom caused by collapsing rock was heard, does this mean the mystery is solved?

In our new paper we recognise one such person, @Northernpengirl, for her sustained commitment to Newfoundland's fossils:

Air France Concorde at Gander c.1980. Gander was used by the Concorde as an alternate to JFK. Due to its fuel consumption, for safety reasons, traffic/weather arrival delays at JFK sometimes meant the Concorde would use Gander for a refuel.

OTD in 1942, the broadcast on VOCM from the K of C on Harvey Rd was interrupted just after 11:00 pm, when someone shouted "Fire, fire." Listeners heard the sounds of people panicking. 99 people died and following the tragedy there were rumours of a German saboteur. @590VOCM
