View from Signal Hill 1975. Taken by a boy Scout group from the USA. In the summer of 1975, the 14th World Scout Jamboree was held in Norway. St. John's served as a common refueling stop or, layover location. #StJohnsNL #ExploreNL #NewfoundlandAndLabrador
St. John's 1894. This is a one of a kind as I created it by restoring, colouring and merging the other 3 photos, to form the panorama. Originals taken by William Libbey and are part of the Gallica collection. #newfoundland #stjohns
War time in St. John's. Here is one I restored and coloured of a parade on Military Road, likely during American-Canadian Day on July 1st 1942. Note the street car rail. #StJohns #Newfoundland #WWII #PhotoRestoration #ColorizedHistory

Rawlins Cross circa 1946. Cars still driving on the left, which was changed in 1947. Original image taken from MUN digital Archives & Special Collections, copy of "Around Newfoundland with a Camera". Pictures by Bill Davies. Restored and coloured by The Photo Mender.
The part of Carpasian Rd. between Empire Ave. and Circular Rd. was known as "Johnny Dwyer's Hill." I've often wondered who Johnny Dwyer was. Turns out he was born in St. Johns, in 1847 and died in 1882 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the world heavyweight boxing champion. #newfoundland
What looks like a 1923 Model T. Ford in Rennie's river, in St. John's. I believe that is the Carpasian road bridge in the background. Photo taken circa 1923. Restored by ThePhotoMender.com Thanks to the Georgestown Neighbourhood Association for sharing this photo with me.
On Jan 2 1942, this RCAF Digby departed Gander on an anti-submarine patrol. Shortly after takeoff the starboard engine malfunctioned. Unable to maintain altitude the crew attempted a forced landing on the water in Freshwater Bay near Dover. Locals later towed the aircraft ashore.

Most of us are familiar with the trans-Atlantic cable brought ashore in Heart's Content on July 27, 1866 but I've never seen what the actual cable looked like until now. #newfoundland
