EUFOR BiH (Bosnia and Herzegovina) UPDATE: The Defence Forces can confirm that all Irish personnel serving in EUFOR BiH are well and accounted for.
Óglaigh na hÉireann wishes to extend it's sympathies to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives after a CH-47 Chinook crashed, today, during a routine training exercise. Our thoughts are with all those recovering from the incident.

Congratulations to the 181 members of the Irish Defence Forces who received academic awards at South East Technological University’s annual conferring ceremony in Carlow on 27th of October.
This achievement reflects the dedication, commitment and determination of our personnel in balancing academic study with their professional careers.
The long-standing partnership between SETU and the Defence Forces continues to support lifelong learning, professional development and the knowledge and skills needed to meet Ireland’s evolving defence and security challenges.

After all the hysteria of last week regarding reforming the triple lock, it's good to get a clear, concise, and accurate view on what's involved from @BerryCathal on todays @morningireland
It's well worth a listen.

There's people on this platform making cynical and obviously false claims about the triple lock.
It gives cover for creeps to post shit like this

No thanks. When it comes to decisions regarding the overseas deployment of our Defence Forces, I'd prefer if they are made by government, ratified by the Dáil, without recourse to foreign governments or organisations.

This is a good explanation of the triple lock. I think it should go as it’s ridiculous to have our sovereign decisions second guessed by China, Russia, USA. It is bizarre to believe that any Irish government would lightly send Irish troops on overseas missions. All governments are averse to risking the lives of their military.

There is a misconception in the opposition at the heart of the triple lock debate.
We currently require a UN mandate even to send ONE troop abroad for peacekeeping.
The 12 figure quoted by the opposition refers to the threshold for Dáil approval.
This is part of the reason why reform is needed.

Govt must prioritise publication and passage of the Judicial Council (Amendment) Bill, which would strengthen the awards review process through international benchmarking and greater involvement of the Injuries Board.

You are dishonest, disrespectful and dishonourable @PeteHegseth
You shame your country as @SecWar
Hegseth on Afghanistan:
I was a captain in Afghanistan, and we would go to the headquarters in Kabul, and there would be 50 flags at the headquarters.
It was a beautiful thing to see 50 different countries contributing to the NATO alliance and the ISAF mission there.
Except there were like maybe five that contributed. It was actually closer to one or two that, by the end, were actually involved in kinetic operations.
In fact, the ISAF patch, we would joke that it meant "I Saw Americans Fighting."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Over 1100 non-American soldiers from 31 US-allied countries were killed fighting in Afghanistan, approximately 1/3 of the total combat deaths.

I am grateful to all of you who are trying to keep Europe and the United States together.
There are so many people with good hearts in America who sincerely want evil to lose and Ukraine to stand strong. These are the very hearts that helped Europe defend its freedom, and that fought on D-Day, won the Cold War, and want what is best for Europe. Hearts that want to be allies, not to divide or humiliate Europe. I believe most Americans still feel this way. And at the end of the day, the American people will have their say.
Putin will listen to America if America really turns up the heat on him and makes one thing clear – either he chooses peace, or he gets no more money for his war.
